(ThyBlackMan.com) Samsung Galaxy Watch features, specifications and release date, everything has been revealed, thanks to rumors and leaks. Smartwatch enthusiasts had suspected it was only a matter of time before the reports surrounding Samsung Galaxy Watch release would turn out to be true. Now when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has confirmed some details, it looks like Samsung will soon unveil a very simple-looking smartwatch.

Design

With the patent filings for Samsung Galaxy Watch trademark, release date hints, and speculation regarding which OS the watch will run on, we now have an idea of how the smartwatch will look like. The FCC listing reveals that the display size of the watch would be 1.2-inch (30.2mm) which is similar to the display size of the Samsung Gear S2 and Gear Sport. It’s quite surprising because, in the Gear S3 series, Samsung increased the display size. The Gear S3 Classic and Frontier sport a 1.3-inch display.

Software

The Gear S4, everyone was waiting for, is probably dead if the reports are true. The Samsung Galaxy Smartwatch will be the company’s new offering in the smartwatch product line in 2018. Samsung has been selling its smartwatches under the “Gear” brand name, but this time, the company is changing its branding strategy.

Reports suggest that only the name will be changed but the device’s core’s software will remain the same. The Samsung Galaxy Watch will run Tizen OS. Samsung has been using Tizen on its smartwatches since 2015. This year’s Galaxy smartwatch will run Tizen 4.0 which was released last year.

Smartwatch variants

Interestingly, Samsung is planning to release two variants of the Galaxy smartwatch. These two variants will be available in different sizes. Reports also hinted that the watch will likely be smaller, lighter and slimmer. Some people prefer big watch but many women and those that have smaller wrist prefer compact watches. So, Samsung is probably working for both this time. With the last year’s Gear S3, Samsung offered different variants but the size on all models was the same. This will be the first time the company is bringing a smartwatch in different sizes.

Features

The Samsung Galaxy Watch will focus more on healthcare features. Reports suggest that the company is planning to bring some new fitness-based applications and features. When it comes to fitness tracking, the current generation Samsung products are pretty good but accuracy is not up to the mark. Reports suggest that Samsung is also working on improving its smartwatch’s tracking capabilities. In fact, the Samsung Galaxy Watch rumors have hinted that the upcoming smartwatch will have many similar features found on Apple Watch.

More color options, cellular connectivity, and a smart assistant will be present in the upcoming watch. In the past, Samsung smartwatches came in two color options but this time there will be three color options to choose from. Samsung will likely add gold color this time.

We heard that Samsung is using the same Tizen platform for the upcoming watch. That means the new watch will likely have the same features as the previously launched watches including the Gear S3 and Gear Sports. The Samsung Galaxy Watch will have all the basic features like Samsung Pay, smartphone notifications, music app, and planner, but most importantly, it will support Bixby.

Samsung launched Bixby with the Galaxy S8 smartphone in 2017. That time, the feature was not quite advanced. The company promised many features for its dedicated voice assistant, but Bixby couldn’t become one-stop solution fans wanted to see. With consistent efforts by Samsung, Bixby is now in a better position but still lags behind the Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa.

LTE Support

Looking at the FCC filings, we have found that the Samsung Galaxy Watch will support LTE on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. The watch will likely be available in Canada and the US. It looks like Samsung is planning to release an unlocked version of the smartwatch that can work with any operator.

The Federal Communications Commission has also published a post about the Wi-Fi only model for the Galaxy Watch. That means there will be two options: Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi with LTE. Both the models will have the same 1.2-inch display.

Release date

The Samsung Galaxy Watch will be unveiled on August 9 and preorders will begin on August 14. A Korean publication’s report suggests that the Galaxy Watch release date is set for August 24. The device will likely be unveiled alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 in New York.
