(ThyBlackMan.com) Sony PlayStation E3 2018 conference started with a beautiful kiss in the Last of Us Part 2 gameplay trailer. A woman called Dina and Ellie are shown kissing each other in Naughty Dog’s upcoming post-apocalyptic action adventure game. The entire gameplay trailer was complex and left many questions for fans to puzzle over. The most important question is: how the Last of Us Part 2 story could unfold? Here’s what we know so far.
Before you assume anything about the Last of Us Part 2 story and gameplay, it’s important to know what Naughty Dog has said in recent interviews. When the developers started working on the first game in the Last of Us series, the core idea behind the game was to show the unconditional love parents feel for their children.
With Joel and Ellie, the studio successfully connected the audience with these two characters on an emotional level. They showed us how far one can go to protect their loved ones. How Joel was willing to sacrifice everything for Ellie and how they protected each other. The whole story of the game was built around this idea and it worked pretty well.
The first game was about love, and this is the time when things won’t be the same anymore. The Last of Us Part 2 story is about hate. It’s evident from the violence we have seen in the gameplay trailer. The relationship between Joel and Ellie was the central focus of the first game, but that doesn’t appear to be the case in the upcoming game. We haven’t seen Joel in the new game, but we know that he will be there, maybe in some other town or in an unlikely place.
The game’s creative director Neil Druckmann said that a lot of conversations in the game are filled with hate, but it’s all very complicated. The beautiful scene when the lady Dina kisses Ellie closes and within a moment, the trailer takes the viewers to a different scene where Ellie is seen violently killing a man. Druckmann and team won’t give us any strong clue but they have dropped some clues.
In the trailer, if you observe that kiss scene, it looks like the woman called Dina is someone Ellie loves, some first love kind of thing. If you observe that seen, the lady is shown wearing a bracelet, while Ellie’s wrist doesn’t have anything tied to it. As soon as the scene changes and Ellie is shown killing people, the same bracelet is visible on her wrist. So is this some kind of a revenge story we are going to see in this game? If that’s happening here, what would be Joel’s role in this new game? We know that Ellie is the main protagonist here and it’s obvious that the story may not focus more on Joel’s journey, but there must be some connection and that’s what that needs to be revealed.
One more interesting thing came out when the lead game designer Emilia Schatz revealed that the company could only show Ellie as a playable character at E3. She said that this could change in the future. It means that there will be more playable characters in the game.
A lot of fans have assumed that Ellie’s mother will appear in the upcoming game. Naughty Dog released one cinematic trailer in 2017 and introduced new characters. None of those characters appears to be old enough to look like Ellie’s mother, but the way the trailer was released and Naughty Dog’s blog post in which the company said “we’re keeping mum and are excited to see what fans make of this piece of the puzzle” led some fans to believe that the woman will be there in the upcoming game. Maybe Ellie is looking for clues in the “sacrifice land” (shown in the latest trailer) to meet her mother.
The Last of Us Part 2 will be available on the Sony PS4 and PS4 Pro. Sony hasn’t confirmed the game’s release date, it’s safe to assume that the Last of Us Part 2 will be released in 2019.
