(ThyBlackMan.com) The most interesting thing about the Samsung Galaxy Fold is that it is different in many aspects as the phone was actually aimed towards what smartphone users have been asking for over the past three years – an all-screen foldable phone. This year, it seems that Samsung has finally taken these requests to heart and has actually designed one of the world’s first foldable phones. Note that the beautiful Royole FlexPai is officially the world’s first phone with a foldable display.
There has been a lot to talk about after Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Fold – the huge 7.3-inch display, its hinge mechanism, dual cell battery, and six-camera system that has surprised everyone. So, get ready because here we are highlighting 10 interesting facts about the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
- The Galaxy Fold can wirelessly charge other devices
Place your Qi-Certified wireless earbuds, phone or smartwatch on the back of your Samsung Galaxy Fold and these devices will be charged. Samsung has introduced a feature called Wireless PowerShare that allows Galaxy Fold to share the power of the dual-cell battery to charge other devices. Apple is said to be using this idea for its new iPhones.
- You can customize its look
Although the Samsung Galaxy Fold comes in a unique design, you can still customize its look to match your style. The smartphone comes in four color options Space Silver, Astro Blue, Martian Green, and Cosmos Black. You can also choose from two different hinge color options if you are picking your Galaxy Fold in Martian Green or Astro Blue color.
- An exciting innovation in smartphone space
Samsung Galaxy Fold is not just another phone – it is something that kicked off a revolution in the smartphone industry. It is changing the way we interact with large-screen phones. Although the phone didn’t make a positive first impression, Samsung was quick to identify problems and is now set to launch the phone in the coming weeks.
- The hinge mechanism
Samsung has spent a considerable amount of time, almost five years, to design and build a hinge that uses both gears and cogs mechanism. The company reportedly developed around 1,000 prototypes to achieve this design dream. The phone uses two panels which are closely connected with each other and use magnets for the movable covers.
- The folding test
Samsung has put a short video of the tests they conducted to measure the durability of Galaxy Fold’s hinge. The video shows the mobile device being repeatedly opened and closed with the help of robotic arms. Samsung claims that the Galaxy Fold can easily survive 200,000 folds which means if you fold the device 100 times daily, the display will last more than 5 years.
- A marvel of engineering
Nowadays, many smartphone manufacturers use OLED displays on their mobile devices. You cannot bend those display panels because doing so will result in fractures. The OLED display on such phones has a polymer adhesive that holds the outer layer with a touch panel and display. For the Galaxy Fold, this adhesive has now been replaced with a better bond developed by Samsung. The layer holds the display panel and allows it to be folded hundreds of thousands of times.
- Bixby button as a fingerprint reader
Interestingly, you can use the Bixby button as a fingerprint reader on the Galaxy Fold. The button can be remapped which means you can use it for some more tricks on your phone. The Bixby button, however, won’t allow you to trigger the Google Assistant, but you can still use it for some apps and other actions such as launching Bixby voice or creating custom shortcuts for apps on your mobile phone.
- Its battery life is impressive
Technically, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has two batteries which are combined to work together. Each one of these batteries is located on each side of the phone. The combined power of the dual cell battery is 4,380 mAh. Of course, battery life varies depending on how you use your phone. External factors such as the environment also affect the battery life, but while many other large-screen phones can’t last for more than a day, the Galaxy Fold offers enough battery life for one and a half day.
- It can compete with laptops
The Samsung Galaxy Fold has a lot to offer in terms of performance and productivity. The 7.3-inch display gives you the option to use up to three applications simultaneously at once. The app continuity feature lets apps automatically open up right where the user left off. Most importantly, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage make it a powerful choice for pro users.
- The phone has 6 cameras
The Galaxy Fold has six cameras that include three rear cameras, two front cameras, and one cover camera. The rear camera system includes a 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP wide-angle camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera. The front camera system has a 10MP shooter and an 8MP depth sensor. On the phone’s cover area, there’s a 10MP selfie camera. This six-camera system captures stunning shots and videos.
The smartphone industry will continue to amaze us with the features the modern smartphones offer. We don’t know what the Samsung smartphones will look like after 5 years, but we’re excited to find out.
