(ThyBlackMan.com) Naughty Dog is once again receiving love letters from fans. The reason is obvious – the release of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The game is out for PlayStation 4 and brings a lot to be appreciated for. The developers have once again delivered a game based on an old, yet proven approach with some less obvious changes. The franchise’s fundamentals are still the same, the only major change the developers have made in this standalone expansion is keeping two female characters in the leading positions.

The Uncharted game series has gotten better over time, and now when The Lost Legacy is available on store shelves, it feels like the developers at Naughty Dog have taken everything to a new level: characters, graphics, weapons, and death-defying scenes, and everything in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy has lessons for video game developers.

Pay Attention to Details

Even if many players don’t pay much attention to how perfectly an event is taking place in the game, developers must pay attention to details. If things are not done right, players will definitely figure out how poorly something is designed. Look at the small things, the way water flows (if you’ve noticed those water splashes when Chloe and Nadine walk), the scars and cuts on Chloe’s hands and the way their hair bounce. Everything is so real.

It looks very simple but it takes a lot of work to achieve such realistic effects which are purely based on how players control a character. Keeping the limitations aside, nowhere in this game you will feel that Naughty Dog has simply played with the basic rules of physics. This is how perfection is achieved and game developers must learn and implement this.

Don’t just create a story around the characters, give them space to grow

When you look at the entire Uncharted series, all the games have featured a team of two. Whether it’s Nathan Drake with Sully or Nate with Elena, and this time the two beautiful women. All the characters, especially when they come together, have their own unique complexities and style. They all are unforgettable for several reasons. Naughty Dog understands how important it is.

Why do people feel connected to Stan Lee’s characters because he has given them enough space to grow. He has given people many reasons to remember those characters. Back to The Lost Legacy, the video game series creators are also following that path. They killed Nathan Drake, but what they brought as a replacement is convincing enough to play the latest game without Drake.

You are not going to miss Nathan while playing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy because the beautiful relationship of these two women is just perfect. Their characters are explored in a way that they make the game complete through their short conversations. This is one of the areas where a large number of game developers lose grip. Fortunately, even after a decade, Naughty Dog is following it.

A game doesn’t need to be huge, all fans want is completeness

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a complete game. It’s short and doesn’t give you dozens of hours of gameplay, but without a doubt, it is the greatest entry in the game series. The game starts immediately and comes with no fat. It means that you won’t be seeing anything useless or time-consuming. We all have played games in which their developers put side quests. In some of the games, these side quests are really interesting, but in some, such additions are purely dumb.

In Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, you do all the things that are necessary to help you progress. No nonsense included. You land in an open world environment which is beautiful, interesting and challenging. As far as the game’s controls are concerned, everything is robust and you will never feel frustrated or lost. The environment is extremely beautiful, so you will be staring at the world the developers built.

Leave fans wanting more

Just play the game once and you will realize why everyone is expecting new expansions in the game series. This is something only a very few game developers do – making them want more.
