(ThyBlackMan.com) Jamie Foxx does it again. Jamie Foxx has shown his fans and Hollywood that he still has it, even though he never lost.  Academy Award-winning actor, talented Grammy Award-winning musical artist and comedian Jamie Foxx is one of Hollywood’s multi-faceted performers I personally feel is underrated.

Jamie Foxx has been in the entertainment business for the past 20 years since his start on Living Color back in the 1990s. Since then Jamie Foxx has proven his ability as a seasoned actor.

His film credits are varied and wide. He was last seen in Horrible Bosses and also recently lent his vocal talents to the popular animated adventure RIO, as a canary named Nico. The Kingdom, Jarhead, Miami Vice, Collateral, Unpredictable and The Soloist are just a few films featuring Jamie Foxx.  Foxx has also starred in Ray and Dreamgirls, which were very successful films. Foxx’ appearance in Ray made him the second male in history to receive two acting Oscar nominations in the same year for two different movies.jamie foxx 141208

Jamie Foxx’ latest artistic endeavor has been the talk of tinsel town and the internet. The new movie Django Unchained stars Foxx and is set in the antebellum era of the Deep South. The film follows Django (Foxx) who is a freed slave trekking across the country with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz played by Christopher Waltz.  Jamie Foxx is on a mission to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from a cruel master.

The script may sound simple enough, but even hundreds of years later in a sensitive racial climate the topic of slavery is a very touchy one. Just as many expected, Quentin Tarantino’s latest film did not fail to cause controversy, being criticized for being too violent, racist and generally offensive.

In a new interview cited by the Daily Mail  Jamie Foxx says that it’s none of that. “Before anything else, this is what Django Unchained is: a work of fiction, entertainment, escapism. Quentin has an affinity for writing horrible things and then making you laugh. He’s making entertainment. Hopefully, it makes you go ask questions and you Google it,” he says. “If you want to learn something from a movie, go watch a documentary,” Foxx adds.

Even in defense of the movie Jamie Foxx admits having to deal with issues regarding the movie. Oddly enough, during one of his recent promotional appearances, Foxx too admitted he had some issues with the film, particularly while they were still shooting it: he cringed every time he heard the N-word, and that happened quite a lot.

Foxx, shared that is was difficult to get into character because he has worked so hard to get to where he is today. Tarantino told him that he had to adopt a pre-Civil War mindset to make his character believable.

Foxx says, “That was tough for me having to act like I can’t read or to be subservient to someone or to hear the N-word over and over again, which is why I asked for because that’s what they labeled us at that time. And it was tough.”

I suppose that would be the traits of a true actor, being able to separate your emotions and get into the character.

With the controversy surrounding Django Unchained the question comes to mind does the film play a significant role historically, will it spark some people to research history or is it simply another opportunity to throw around the loaded N word that seems to upset so many?

I suppose the answer will be an individual and a personal choice.  Either way with all of the controversy surrounding the film I’m sure Django Unchained will be a serious contender for many awards in the upcoming months.
