(ThyBlackMan.com) If you didn’t pick Prey this year, first of all, you should know that it’s available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. If you’re lucky, you can get the game at discounted rates from Bethesda. Prey is a first-person shooter developed by Arkane Studio, the developer of Call of Duty: World at War, BioShock 2, and Dishonored series.

Some critics said that the game takes inspiration from the other titles and it makes the journey boring and dull. But when you play the game, you will realize that the inspiration came from all the right places. You will feel Deus Ex, and Bioshock inspired gameplay. It’s not a pure imitation of course and the combat in Prey is unique in its own ways. The game is beautiful and for someone who enjoys single player games, it introduces a beautiful environment with detailed graphics. This is a place where great sci-fi action meets art.

On the review aggregator Metacritic, the game has received an overall score of 79 percent which clearly tells how much players loved the game. On Steam, the game has received very positive reviews from players. Arkane has developed beautiful combat areas where the players can fight enemies and find ways to unlock the secrets. As a player, you explore a space station Talos 1. There you learn all the basic rules and then see the protagonist following and breaking them.

In the beginning, you enter the lobby where a series of doors awaits you. The protagonist Morgan Yu has access to some of the doors while the locked doors are a challenge as they require special keycards. If you can think outside the box, there are alternatives available. Use your abilities to climb ledges, use your skills to create your own ways to climb walls, or if you are lucky enough, you will find some vents through which you can make your way.

There are so many interesting things you can find in Prey. The story remains a mystery for a long time but as soon as you uncover, it becomes highly engaging. You don’t always hear a background voice and written text on the screen, to understand what to do next, instead, you collect information yourself by reading logs. You’re bound to stay alert about what the other characters tell you. You will encounter some major twists in the story itself which is unpredictable.

There are many quests available in the game and some of them can be solved in multiple ways. You won’t be guided briefly about the quests, you will have to read the logs carefully and follow your mind. Unlike other AAA titles, you are not guided by navigation menus, icons or big figures in this game. There’s a catch in how Typhons act, and it makes you rely more on your own hacking abilities.

Moving objects, hacking, repairing stuff is highly engaging and you won’t find it repetitive. There are unique ways to enter into rooms. One more interesting thing about the game is that when you are taking optional quests, they not only give you reward points, but some quests can actually leave a significant impact on gameplay.

In terms of graphics, the game looks really beautiful and detailed. But when it comes to the characters, it seems little weak. The game also looks unbalanced on almost every platform.

It doesn’t mean that you can’t play the game, but in some areas, gameplay doesn’t look very responsive. You will find some of the weapons to be underpowered while some weapons may cause more damage than you expect. Some say that the game remained underrated because the developer didn’t reveal any plans about DLC packs, while for some, the developer had to do so because the sales figure didn’t support the idea of creating more content for the game. The game’s marketing strategy was also blamed by critics and according to many, the game deserves more appreciation than what it received.
