Family Support Services Receives Social Media Workshop.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Family Support Services (FSS) provided its young adults with a Social Media workshop that focused on the power of positive and negative digital content and how it can affect a young person’s future career options and higher educational aspirations.

The speaker William Jackson, Instructor with Edward Waters College, IT Manager with Westside Church of Christ and IT Manager with Reader Theater in Jacksonville, Florida spoke about the value and engagement of Social Media.

The young adults in attendance were able to ask questions about choosing the type of content they create, how to use Social Media WilliamJackson-SocialTeacher-2015platforms to promote themselves and tools to Market themselves and the prevention of Cyberbullying, Sexting and the potential to be recruited by terrorist organization through Social Media.

Mr. Jackson spoke about the importance of Branding a young adults talents and gifts they have, to use those talents and abilities in positive ways through volunteering in the community and ways to Market themselves in their areas of interest. Marketing and Branding are very important in a global economy that
is growing with the use of technology.

The diversity and scalability of Social Media allows teens and young adults too digitally (virtually) if not physically connect with people that are already established professionals in the career areas they are interested in.

Mr. Jackson a speaker at the upcoming Preventing Crime In the Black Community hosted by Florida State Attorney’s Office being held in Tampa, Florida, encouraged the young adults to avoid online scams and to distance themselves from family or friends that are involved in criminal activity and Bullying online.

Many law enforcement agencies have Cyber divisions that have sophisticated tools to track online activities that can lead to identifying, watching and prosecuting online criminal behaviors. Laws have been passed to make online crimes easier to prosecute and are federal crimes with mandatory sentences.

This is the third workshop provided to the Family Support Services that is the lead agency for foster care, adoption and family preservation in Duval and Nassau counties.
