(ThyBlackMan.com) Excerpts from the book titled, “The Fix This Time” amazon.com/dp/B00MI3PD2M  – Here is what Chuck Schumer, the Minority Leader of the Senate said the Democratic Party needed, after the defeat of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the presidential election; “Democrats need a strong, bold, sharp-edged, and common-sense economic agenda.” Yet, there are no Democratic politicians promoting what Mr. Schumer states the party needs, not even Mr. Schumer himself.

Instead, Democrats are hanging their hats on another risky anti-Trump campaign. They see Mr. Trump as an easy target! However, anti-Trumpism is not a policy, or plan on which Democrats can govern. They know this, and the Republicans know this also. That’s why Mr. Trump and other members of his party hassle Democrat politicians, with the question, “Where are the Democrats’ plans to grow the economy and create jobs.” Mrs. Clinton nor Mr. Sanders, did not see the economy and the dissatisfaction of American workers, when it came to the exportation of good paying jobs to China, as major issues.

Mr. Trump did and he drilled downed on those issues every opportunity he got. We are now facing the 2018 mid-term elections and Democrats are abandoning what Mr. Schumer’s states the party should be laser-focused on and are repeating the risky political strategy of anti-Trumpism, which Secretary Hillary Clinton employed, in her presidential election loss. There is no question that there is great enthusiasm among the rank and file and the Democratic Party base, when it comes to mounting such a campaign. Furthermore, in discussing the current negotiations of the budget, the current Democratic leadership is championing DACA (Deferred Action for Child Arrivals), while Mr. Trump is championing the financing of a long-promised border wall and changes to the immigration system.

Democratic leadership in doing this, are putting the winning of the 2018 elections in peril. You see, there is nothing wrong with championing DACA as a secondary issue. But Democrats should be championing the restoration of the COLA (cost of living allowance), when it comes to Social Security as their primary issue. Why, you ask? The COLA issue connects them to their base, their core constituency; Baby Boomers and American workers and everybody who pays the mandatory Social Security payroll tax. It further demonstrates Republicans are not supportive of this constituency, mainly working class Americans. They took money from seniors’ checks, reducing their Social Security income over the next 10 years by 5 percent to give it to the wealthy, businesses and corporations as part of the 2017 tax cut (https://thyblackman.com/2017/12/11/tell-nanna-merry-xmas-trump-has-just-cut-her-social-security-check-5/). Their strategy of anti-Trumpism and championing of DACA as a primary issue, is reflective of a party with old and tired leadership, who are not connecting with the electorate at a very crucial time.

They are concentrating on how bad the other guy is and immigration, rather then on how good they can be as a governing party based on a plan for, stabilizing the Social Security program, job creation, how to grow the economy and a coherent trading policy, which addresses the devastation of American communities affected by the exportation of good paying jobs to other countries. While, the old line stewards of the Democratic Party see what they are doing as a viable strategy, in reality, it is the strategy of a declining party bankrupt of new ideas.

If Democratic party members, who are reading this piece continue to bury their heads in the sand, and not confront party leaders who are championing this losing strategy, then they are, in effect a part of the problem and not the answer to a needed win in November. Is that you?! It is well know in Washington political circles, that Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the House wants to see legislation that would reduce spending on some entitlement programs, which is a code word for cutting current Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits.

Hello, everyone, who pays into the Social Security trust fund, who gets a Social Security check, or use Medicare and Medicaid Insurance, has a stake in Democrats highlighting the restoration of the COLA, but not in DACA! Democrats, by championing an issue that directly affects their constituency, have an opportunity to continue to expose and keep on the front burners, the negatives of the Republican tax bill, which are trickle down economics and the issue of corporations continuing to pursue the strategy of moving jobs to low wage labor markets like China, India and Mexico.

Having stated the problem, how do you resolve it and indeed resolve it in time to make a positive difference in the mid-term elections. You say, look I see the problem, but I’m just one individual and am not a big shot. Knowing this, then how can I as one individual use my capacity to do something; to do more as all of us have a stake in the outcome of the 2018 elections. For once, I don’t have a clear answer, that will force an entrenched leadership to refocus its priorities on what really matters to us. All I can say, is be creative! Maybe you should tweet Democratic Party leaders and in your tweet give them a link to this article, that is, if you “like” and see this perspective, as a viable alternative.

As the lyrics of the song by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes says, “Wake Up Everybody! No more backward thinkin’, Time for thinkin’ ahead, The world won’t get no better, if we just let it be. The world won’t get no better we gotta change it, yeah, just you and me.”
