(ThyBlackMan.com) Wedding bells are usually a cause for happiness and celebration. However, I admit I can honestly care less about this particular engagement. Everyone has the right to be happy, with who makes them happy…so in that sense Congratulations Cardi B. I’m aware that this may cause her fans to scream in disdain, but I’m not a Cardi B fan. When I see her, I see what’s unfortunate, and wrong with community. Before you holler that’s sexist…I feel this way about Migos and other the male artists like them. So many sisters are on the Cardi B train, and if that’s your cup of tea cool.

However, the problem comes in when folks try to make is seem like she’s just the ultimate in terms of what’s “real”. I’m still trying to come to terms with “bloody shoes” …yes I’ve listened to her music, and wanted to like it. We are all supposed to cap for Cardi B because she’s so “real”, and she came from the bottom.

The deal is nothing seems to be too real anymore while everyone screams the opposite. Cardi B and Offset, from Migos, went from public breakup to engaged in a couple of weeks. Basically, fans need to prepare for a public fiasco that might make it to the alter, and very well may not. many fans are hoping these two beat the odds. When that is put out there basically fans are hoping the lifestyle, and the foolishness, and the I’m so real…doesn’t kill what could be real. That in a sense is my issue with this entire circus. Given where I’m from, I know I get ugly in the mouth if necessary but I’m no Bitch and I hope you aren’t either.

Hip-Hop is a genre whose heartbeat sustained by the “I came from nothing” narrative. It just seems like today we celebrate artists being merely characters while young fans think it’s so real. We talk about the need for Black love, but then are falling over bubbly because Carbi B is engaged to a brother that is nowhere near stable. Black Love…but Offset is engaged to unstable as well. If you listen to the music without bias, check out social media, and youtube you’ll see exactly what I mean. Put your fandom on the shelf for a moment, and give it a look. When you’re done you may still be a fan, but at least you won’t cap in certain areas.

I’m sure many will sit back and watch the Cardi B engagement play out. I’m not a fan of hers but I’m all about black women thriving so I will always hope she is well, and evolving. This is one circus I have no intention of entertaining.
