(ThyBlackMan.com) Can Nokia 8 be saved because it’s available at lower price than expected and it features top of the line specifications? No, it’s not how it works, at least not in 2017. There are many powerful smartphones available in the market, but not all of them are shining. Just because the 8 has Nokia branding with it doesn’t necessarily mean that the others should simply bow and make the way for a brand which was once a king of the mobile phone world.

The Nokia 8 comes with some really good features and it is packed with powerful hardware. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, 3090mAh battery and Adreno 540 GPU together make it stand strong against its rivals from Samsung, LG, Apple and Google. The device runs on stock Android Nougat 7.1.1 and it will likely get the Oreo update in future.

From the hardware point of view, the phone is good and its design is also appealing. The phone comes in premium build quality as it is designed with a single block of series 6000 aluminum. A bright 5.3-inch 2K polarized display adds more shine to the device and its impressive hi-resolution LCD screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection which is absolutely perfect. The Nokia 8 comes with two 13MP camera sensors with Zeiss lens. There’s also a selfie camera with Zeiss lens and it also takes great pictures. With OZO Audio, the phone allows you to capture 360-degree surround sound. So if everything in the phone looks good, what are the areas where it lacks?

The first thing which is unexpected from a company like Nokia is lack of basic features. If in 2017 a company is bringing a device in a premium price range, people expect a lot more than what the 8 has to offer.

Water resistance is one of the features which is a basic need today. The 8 is splash proof with the IP54 rating, so don’t expect water resistance. When phones are hitting the store shelves with IP67 and IP68 ratings, bringing a splash resistant phone makes it clear that Nokia is late in the game. According to the company, the decision was taken to maintain the design standards as the company didn’t want to make any compromise with the phone’s design.

You don’t get wireless charging option with the 8. This is obviously not a highly demanded feature, but now when we are about to enter into the fourth quarter of the year and companies like Samsung, LG and Apple are embracing the wireless charging technology, bringing a phone without the feature makes it look dated, unless you are asking users to pay less than what others are asking them to pay.

The biggest thing that makes us wonder is the phone’s design. The design of Nokia 8 without a doubt is good in its own ways, and it’s really good that the company is still carrying its design strategy in 2017. It is not necessary that everyone should follow bezel-less design trend, but reducing the phone’s size while keeping the display bigger doesn’t hurt. Nokia isn’t doing so.

Nokia has made a great comeback even after failing so hard. The company is putting its years of experience and knowledge in developing the brand and what we see today is a result of hard work. The designers didn’t deliver a phone in hurry, they took their time and even though the phone is late, the 8 doesn’t miss the opportunity to turn heads.

Nokia is rumored to bring Nokia 9 and what the 8 offers is a clear signal that we can expect a lot from its successor. Those who are thinking of buying the 8 need to check its availability since the phone is not available in all the regions. There are rumors about a customized version of Nokia 8 launching in US and China, but it is better you take such rumors with a grain of salt.
