(ThyBlackMan.com) Talks about a new Google Pixel phone are at peak, as the Google I/O 2017 conference is just around the corner. The three-day event is scheduled to begin on May 17 and Google Pixel 2 or Google Pixel Taimen along with the two new Pixel phones is expected to be unveiled sometime soon. There are chances that the company will at least unveil Android O features and release date during the event as the new device is said to run on Android O operating system.
The good thing is that a new Pixel phone details just appeared in a database of Geekbench, a popular mobile benchmarking app. According to the available details, the new Google Pixel phone named Google Taimen will run on Android O. The new version of the Android OS has already been announced, and it is also available for developer preview. Just like the last year’s Android N, the unnamed Android O is expected to be launched sometime in late summer or October.
If the leaked details are something to go by, the new Pixel phone will come equipped with Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor. As usual, Google has codenamed the new phones, and it appears that the company will release three phones this year. Other than Google Taimen, the two phones include Muskie and Walleye.
While there is no information provided by Google at this point, if both HTC and Google design new models keeping the issues from the previous releases, and inspirations from the latest hardware upgrades in mind, we will have some excellent smartphones from Google this year.
So should you expect what is being circulated on the internet? Well, you should not. The specifications available on the website suggest that the new Google Pixel phone gives a score of 1804 in single core and 6248 in multi core. On the other hand, if you look at the Samsung Galaxy S8+, the test scores are 1929 and 6084 respectively. So it is very clear that if this is what Google is planning to bring with Taimen, it won’t stand against the rivals in smartphone market. The phone will not even compete well with OnePlus 5’s leaked scores of 1963 and 6687.
Since Google hasn’t confirmed whether these three devices will be beating the upcoming smartphones from the companies like Samsung and One Plus or not, nothing can be said at this point of time. There are chances that the numbers are probably the test scores when the device is running on a mid-level processor.
Earlier this year, many reports claimed that the new Pixel phone will be powered by Snapdragon 653 chipset, which is a mid-range processor. So given this, there are chances that there will be a mid-range variant of the phone.
There is one more thing which you should not ignore. The tests were probably taken and the scores we see represent the lowest possible clock speed. So, if this is the case then Google’s Pixel phone will definitely won’t disappoint users in terms of performance. Either way, the announcement of the upcoming Google Pixel phone is still far away. Since the company hasn’t shared anything specific about its lineup of smartphones in the Pixel phone series, taking the leaked details with a pinch of salt is probably the best way.
If you look at the last year’s Pixel phone, it was undoubtedly a groundbreaking device with beautiful design and powerful performance. With the 5-inch HD AMOLED screen, a 12.3 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera, the Google Pixel phone was and still is a complete package for smartphone enthusiasts. It would be really interesting to see how far Google will go in terms of user-friendly design, performance and software with its upcoming phones.

Good write up. At first I thought Google couldn’t make a premium phone to compete with Apple & Samsung. With the Note 7 exploding it allowed the Google Pixel phone to take center stage. I have a few friends that rock a Pixel phone. Can’t wait until the Pixel 2 is release.
