(ThyBlackMan.com) As a Vet, I totally understand what it means to serve and protect and to sacrifice self for the well being of someone else. And in my eyes, that’s exactly what professional athlete Colin Kaepernick is doing. The move he made on Americas biggest stage was not only sacrificial, but also a service call for protection not only from the poorly trained or crooked cops, but from America herself.

If there is one thing America doesn’t like, she doesn’t like being embarrassed. America has never bowed out gracefully when confronted with the ugly truths of her ways. She’s always defended he position and often fought back to make an example out of those 2016kaepvetswho try. Therefore, Mr. Kaepernick’s “knee” during her song was like a slap in the face, especially since football is as American as apple pie. By now we’ve heard the complaints from veterans who felt disrespected by his move; however, Mr. Kaepernick has stepped in to a line of fire that only a soldier can withstand. A black man in America, standing up for injustice in America is like going abroad to fight a war, a death wish.

The backlash he’s received is typical for Americans, and as was the support from African Americans. I’m sure Mr. Kaepernick expected it though. Nobody takes a stand like that with expecting to be ridiculed. So, because he knew and expected it, I feel like he was prepared and he showed it with how he addressed the media. His comments were heartfelt and consistent. This is how he has serviced America by being sincere and consistent with what he believes. He respected the platform and made himself a difficult target to take down.

Another part of Mr. Colin Kaepernick’s service to America, unfortunately, will not be felt until this all plays out. The number of lives he’s impacting, the number of conversations he’s igniting and the example he’s setting for America’s future will be unmatched in this era of sports.

Mr. Colin Kaepernick’s sacrifice and service is a result what he feels is his duty to protect American who have been mistreated by law enforcement. Every real man feels that it’s his duty to aid and protect the less fortunate and weak. This was a man’s move Mr. Kaepernick made. It’s clear that he believes in what he stands for because he’s making personal sacrifices, honorably serving as a poster child for chance and trying to protect America from her own hate.
