(ThyBlackMan.com) Who matches up best with President Obama in a head to head match? Turns out, it is Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul.
According to the latest Marist Research poll released early Sunday, Ron Paul trails President Obama by 12 percentage points, the smallest margin of victory held by the President.
The poll finds former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum leading the Republican field in the state of Ohio with 34 percent. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is in second place with 32 percent, while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich received 15 percent. Ron Paul took last place with 13 percent.
The poll is the latest to find Mr. Santorum leading in the state of Ohio. The Pennsylvania Republican has suffered a string of defeats in recent weeks, losing to Mr. Romney in a number of key primary battles, including Michigan and Arizona.
“Here we go again. It’s another make or break state and it could go either way,” said Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. “One big Buckeye state difference is that, unlike earlier contests, Romney isn’t running up the score among those who have already voted.”
The poll finds President Obama leading Ron Paul, 48 percent to 38 percent. Fifty percent of respondents support Mr. Obama compared with 38 percent for Mr. Romney. Fifty percent of registered voters back President Obama compared with 36 percent for Mr. Santorum.
Pollsters noted that Ron Paul’s support likely stems from a higher percentage of voters identifying themselves as independent. Ohio voters are more likely to identify as independents than they were in a similar poll conducted in October 2008, according to Marist pollsters. Thirty-five percent of registered voters now consider themselves to be independent compared with 31 percent at that time. Republican identification has decreased from 31 percent to 26 percent, and Democrats are little changed.
“President Obama’s advantage over his potential challengers in Ohio is underscored by the fact that more voters support him over the GOP field than approve of his job performance,” said Dr. Miringoff.
The poll follows in the wake of the Washington state caucus on Saturday, in which Ron Paul took second place behind Mr. Romney. The Ron Paul campaign, which has yet to secure a victory, has touted its second place finishes as central to its goal of building support with delegates.
With that what does Ron Paul need to do? As a Ron Paul supporter do you feel he is lacking something? Ron Paul 2012 campaign still alive and kicking.

Obama was a better choice for POTUS than McCain and now Ron Paul is a better choice for POTUS than Obama or Romney their universal health care bill has in it that they want to have all of us RFID chipped with all of your information including your bank account ,this is not something I can support as a free citizen.
I don’t think Ron Paul needs to “do” anything different. I think the MSM neds to stop lying about where this man polls. The GOP and MSM needs to stop the vote-counting fraud. Then he will win the nomination by a landslide. He is too honest and incorruptible. He doesn’t fit their puppet syndrome. They will do whatever they can to stop him, even though it is stealing an entire generation. Too bad, GOP, without him you lose – four more years of Obama.
We love Ron Paul in Austin,TX! Revolution 2012!!!!!
Ron Paul, whom I support to the fullest, is lacking ONE thing, CONTROVERSY! This is what’s required to get into the mainstream media (both left, less-left and right media networks)and being in the mainstream media (even if negative media attention) is free publicity. The facts are Ron Paul is TOO honest, humble, knowledgable and would be a great and loved POTUS and that’s not a big enough story for the media to give Ron Paul the spot light! Remember when he had the most TV time, it was over 20 year old racist news letters (controversy), after he gave his honest answers, which are hard to dispute given his honesty in other areas, he’s dropped out of that breif moment in the spot light. Another example is look at how he answers interviewers when they ask dumb pointed questions about the latest controversial subjects, he tries to get back on his platform of constitutional government everytime. He, unfortunately, mixes with the media like oil and water. The media has to change and they want change as all they are doing is feeding the public what they want, garbage.
Ron Paul can’t make president. American’s aren’t smart enough to vote him in.
Congratulations on four more years of establishment.
Ron Paul would make a good president because he is an honest decent man who loves our country and obeys the U.S. Constitution which is the law of the land. He would be the president of all the people. He does not believe in putting people into different groups such as age or race or religion. We are all Americans and deserve to be treated as individuals with the right to our life, and liberty and to be able to live our lifes freely as long as we do no harm to another human being. He is also a humble Christian man and I trust that he would do the right thing for all the citizens of this country. If people would only listen to his videos and get to know him I know they would see how much better he would govern our nation. So much depends on this election. Please people, vote for RON PAUL.
it saddens me to see that ron pauls support is not as high as i would like/ that he never gets the coverage that he truly deserves. however, i do believe that alot of the people (myself included) that will vote for him are less likely to vote in the primaries which is not good for dr. paul, but i do believe that he needs to find a way to get these people (like myself) mroe active and involved with these types of things. I think that dr. paul should address the younger generation because his ideals are directly in line with us, he needs to talks more directly to this group whether it be talking at occupy type of rallies, whatever it may be, because the younger generation (myself included) are not watching cnn and fox so they are blacking him out, but he should realize that if he gets in line with more websites potentially or whatever it may be that he could begin to gain more attention. A great site would be REDDIT or TUMBLR or STUMBLEUPON, if he had mroe of his focus on this area i KNOW KNOW KNOW that he would raise his numbers, tells us moreso that you need our help in primaries make it easier for us to help raise awarness about him because we are the power never foget it! so help make the younger generation individuals more available to aid his campaign and gain your audience! thanks alot for even reading this if you do? but i am someone that believes its very important someone like ron paul be elected, just make it easier for people like me to help!!!! and i will
Plain and simple, Ron Paul does what he says he will do. I do not believe he needs to change anything, I think the attitude of America needs to change, and it is.
Ron Paul has the courage of his convictions and his story hasn’t changed in 30 years, unlike the other candidates that say one thing and do another (including Obama.)
Thank you for being fair and running this story, we do not see a whole lot of that these days.
I would like to leave you with this statement:
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Ron Paul is the only candidate proposing REAL change.
Much Love!
