(ThyBlackMan.com) It does not take a lot for Denzel Washington to get fans out to check out his movies. When I heard that he was coming out with ‘Flight,’ I lost my mind. I had to get to the theater as quickly as possible. If not, then I was going to have a fit. The film received a lot of mixed reviews –which is a good thing, because people went to go see it.
Some of the things that I read about the film in regard to his fan base were that they were not used to seeing Denzel Washington play a character that was an alcoholic and that the film was slow. However, I think that the film was 
awesome and detailed the life of a man that had to have a major accident on a plane that he was controlling recognize his own demons.
‘Flight,’ is good because it does not hold back nor does the character of Denzel Washington. He is captivating and alluring at the same time in this movie. Not to mention that the film came out just in time for the holidays. There were several stars in the movie, but it seemed like Denzel Washington could have been the only one in this film and it still would have been on point. I think the film was released at the right time due to the fact that so many people are losing their minds right now to drugs and alcoholism. Instead of keeping things bottled up Denzel Washington’s character had to suffer until the end of the movie to acknowledge is transgressions.
There are not many actors since Sidney Poiter that have graced the screen and portrayed a multitude of characters and got them right on time. Denzel Washington is my generations Sidney and he has done so much as an African American actor that if he did make a bad movie, I still would go out and see it. How many actors have you seen that evolve and stand the test of time? I’ve never heard about Denzel Washington in any scandals, and he is a good husband and father.
What more can his fan base ask for –or critics? I remember seeing him in ‘Training Day,’ and I was so shocked that he won an Oscar for the character that was Thug. And, he gave a beautiful acceptance speech –which let everybody know that he was very conscious of what is going on around him. Denzel Washington should be everybody’s mentor.
