Kenneth W. Williams’ Debut Novel Follows One Man’s Incredible Journey through World War II to Reunite with the Love of his Life

RED TAIL HEART: The Life and Love of a Tuskegee Airman by Kenneth W. Williams begins as the story of a lonely divorce attorney, Christopher Irvin. After an injury sidelines him from his law practice and the news of his great uncle’s death shatters his world, Chris flies toFrance to take care of his uncle’s estate. What he uncovers there, however, changes everything he ever thought about his uncle and helps him rediscover his faith in love.

Williams then leads the reader through Uncle Roy’s story. One of the famed  Tuskegee Airmen of World War II, Roy endured humiliation and debasement from his fellow military officers due to his race, only to receive a special do-or-die flight assignment because of it. Upon crash landing after his successful mission, Roy is taken in by Marie, a member of the French Resistance and a veritable Joan of Arc of her time.

“Marie was a fierce and independent woman. Roy was out to prove himself to be merely a man and fight for an overtly racist country that wouldn’t fight for him. Their improbable relationship was unlikely, especially with the war raging. Yet it seemed to take hold and transcend all the obstacles blocking its fruition,” says Williams.

Removed from the war on Marie’s family farm, the pair begins to fall in love and build a life together. However, their new life is cut short when Roy is branded a deserter by the Army and is committed to a mental institution back in the United States.

Upon his release years later, Roy is psychologically damaged, unable to afford passage toFrance, and forced to live with his family. When a young Chris is awarded a scholarship to study inFrance, Roy eagerly accompanies him. But before he can have the reunion he’s always dreamed of, Roy must first come to terms with his and Marie’s past and face an old enemy. In the end, the story of Roy and Marie illuminates the importance of love to Chris, and he is finally able to begin his own journey to find love.

RED TAIL HEART is a sweeping romance for a new generation, telling a story of faith, family, hope, hardship, and most importantly, love, all through one man’s immense struggle to reunite with his soulmate. The book takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster, but will ultimately leave him with the same faith in and hope for love that Chris regains by the end of the novel.
