(ThyBlackMan.com) Samsung’s $99 Galaxy Fit fitness tracker is hard not to recommend. It costs less than many other fitness trackers and it has some very useful features that make it a value for money product. The Galaxy Fit is now available in the U.S. and it’s needless to say that the device is challenging Fitbit Inspire HR and Xiaomi’s Mi Band 4 which are also available below the $100 price.

If you want a fitness tracker that can be used beyond gym and morning hours, the Samsung Galaxy Fit is the right wearable for you.

  1. Heart rate sensor

While keeping the design less intrusive and as slim as possible, Samsung has added a heart rate sensor to the Galaxy Fit. The fitness tracker allows for easy heart rate monitoring and notifies users if their heart rate rises abnormally.

  1. AMOLED display

One of the biggest advantages Samsung has is its display technology. No matter if it’s a smartphone, a smartwatch, or a feature-rich fitness tracker, Samsung knows where it can and can’t compete. To make the Galaxy Fit stand out, Samsung has added a 0.95-inch AMOLED display that complements a look that’s premium and stylish.

  1. Lightweight Materials

While the main attraction of the Galaxy Fit tracker is its slim and sleek design, its weight is also very good for a device of this size. The fitness tracker weighs just 23 grams that too with strap. The device literally doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing something on your wrist. Its compact design also makes it look perfect on both small and large wrists.

  1. Smartwatch Features

The Samsung Galaxy Fit is obviously not a smartwatch killer, but it has some good features. You can connect it with your phone and can receive notifications directly on your wrist. The device also has the functionality to send quick replies so you can easily respond to messages without having to touch your smartphone. The Galaxy Fit syncs Do Not Disturb settings with smartphones. It means you do not have to manually put the tracker on DND mode. The device also detects your current time zone and suggests roaming clock.

  1. Samsung Health mobile app

With the help of Samsung Health app, the Galaxy Fit can track about 90 workouts as well as your sleep and stress levels. It can automatically track up to six activities and can be programmed to remember your ten preferred activities out of more than 90 workouts. The device also has widgets to track your daily schedule and nutrition.

  1. Auto Sleep Tracking

While Samsung is aggressively pushing to catch up by adding more advanced features in its smartwatches, it has followed a minimalist approach to design the Galaxy Fit. The fitness band focuses only on core tracking features and justifies what it promises to do. It auto tracks sleep and analyzes patterns. Later when the user wakes up, he can check a detailed report highlighting information such as total sleep time and sleep quality.

  1. Stress Level Indicator

When stress levels are high, the Galaxy Fit recommends breathing exercises to users. It tracks stress levels and alerts users with a beautifully designed indicator that appears on the device’s screen. The app suggests time-bound breathing exercises.

  1. Water Resistance

The Samsung Galaxy Fit is a water-resistant fitness tracker. It has water resistance of 5ATM which means you can take it underwater up to 50 meters. Although, the device is not designed for high-pressure underwater activities and should be dried once you’re out of water. However, you can wear it and enjoy short swimming sessions and showers.

  1. Wireless Charging

It’s good to see so many features packed in a small fitness band. The Galaxy Fit supports NFC wireless charging and its battery life is impressive. The fitness band has 2MB of RAM; 32MB of storage; and supports Bluetooth 5 too. The device is available in two color options – black and silver.

  1. Battery

A 120mAh battery keeps the Samsung Galaxy Fit running for up to 7 days after a full charge, suggests Samsung. Given the quality of the display, power-hungry sensors, and apps, this is fairly good. Battery life may vary depending on how much you use the device and what features you’re using, but for its price, a week’s battery life is reasonable.

The only reason to skip

Given the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Fit is a fitness tracker, it is aimed toward users who want simple fitness tracking capabilities, not a full smartwatch experience. The Galaxy Fit covers almost all the features that any fitness tracker in a budget-friendly price tag should but there’s still room for improvements. GPS is missing from this device which means there’s no way you can track location. There’s no storage space for music even when the device supports Bluetooth. The design for notifications looks very ugly on the screen and text are mostly unreadable.
