(ThyBlackMan.com) According to the Associated Press in a recent story, the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) has entered into negotiations with NFL owners, regarding the controversy over NFL players kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem. What the NFL players have done in highlighting the issue of unjust killings of African Americans by errant police officers and their proxies, deserves the highest praise. Their protests have caused this issue to never recede from main stream news coverage.
In an attempt to settle this issue, the NFL owners according to the Associated Press have offered NFLPA $90,000,000.00 “over the next seven years to address social justice causes in a three-segment plan that involves league players.” Well, here is the point of this article and should be the point of any discussion, about this issue going forward and that is, league players kneeled for an issue that was spurred by Black America.
The protests over the whim killings of African Americans by errant police officers and their proxies started with the killing of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida in 2012. Colin Kaepernick, in 2016, in a preseason game in August against the Green Bay Packers, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California did not stand for the National Anthem. Kaepernick commented, “I am not going to stand up to 
show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.
To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder. …” President Donald Trump, berated kneeling league players and their protests, in an Alabama style political rally in Huntsville on September 23, 2017. He stated, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!”
If there is ever an issue that Christians, and not just black Christians, should step up and involve themselves; it is without question, this issue. You may ask why? Well, because this is “a just issue,” devoid of politics. Law enforcement and their proxies are killing African Americans at 2 and 1/2 times the rate they are killing whites, when you consider population, according to recent statistics (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-police-shootings-race-20160711-story.html). Our white counterparts make up 62 percent of the United States population while African Americans make-up only 13 percent. It does not take a rocket scientist, or a Harvard University degree in mathematics to realize, the weights of this bag of statistics are out of balance “and unjust.” Many Christians are familiar with the following scriptures:
Proverbs 20:23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
And here is what Micah 6:8 states: “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
The killings of African Americans, as measured by any standards, by errant police officers are UNJUST. But, we as Christians, and non-Christians have an opportunity to impact this injustice by “doing justly,” to correct this abomination, as is a Christian’s duty. We can contact the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and demand, as part of any cash settlement with NFL owners, that at least ten percent of that money go toward supporting solutions to end, or drastically reduce the killings of our brothers and sisters.
It boils down to the NFL Players Association (NFLPA ) being offered $90,000,000.00 and they kneeled FOR a cause that was spurred by Black America. Are we going to allow them to pocket $90,000,000.00, without expending any of that $90,000,000.00 on a solution to STOP the ABUSES and WHIM KILLINGS OF AFRICAN AMERICANS?!
MAY GOD, ACCORDING TO MICAH FORBID THIS TO HAPPEN!
Tweet the NFLPA NOW and keep tweeting them, until they get the message @https://twitter.com/NFLPA by the hundreds and ask them why they have YET, to use the money owners have offered them, (90 million dollars), to sponsor a meeting of stakeholders. To do nothing, while NFLPA walks away with this bounty, is akin to Black America suffering all the pain of seeing its brothers and sisters gunned down and standing up against these killings, while NFLPA flies in and scoops up the cash.
And as they fly away, money overflowing, “to use as they please,” ninety million dollars; you can hear them exclaim, “See you later, Black America, you are on your own, even though we kneeled and “got paid” for a cause you clearly initiated.”
