Call the Police.

(ThyBlackMan.com) It is tiring to see the constant harassment of black people as white people take it upon themselves to call the police for every little feeling they have. In some instances, black people have been confronted, treated in a manner that is unacceptable, and then the police are called. I know we are told its because there seems to be some level of fear or discomfort when white people see black people in certain environments…ones they have a right to exist within.

Given the social climate we are living in unless someone is living under a rock you can’t make me believe they don’t see the headlines whereby black people are mishandled and even killed by the police. Law enforcement is used as a weapon against black people and even the most “well meaning” white 911 called has to acknowledge that their feelings could cause someone to innocently lose their life, or maybe that is asking to much.

Brothers and sisters you pay taxes and you are a citizen of this country. It is high time that you use the power of 911. In too many instances we try to reason with white people that are oppressing and harassing us in public spaces, and spaces we pay for. We want to explain why we have a right to be wherever we are at the time we are approached. We turn on the phone camera, which has been helpful in documenting this negative treatment, but we continue trying to reason.

We ask for apologies we will never get and grant it vindication in some instances does happen once our video goes viral. However, you end up explaining yourself to the police as the reason for the call. How long will it be before that situation ends in a very unfortunate manner? How long will we continue to plead regarding our humanity to those that truly don’t’ believe we possess such. That might seem like a stretch, but everything has continued to point in that direction.

When we are harassed it is time out for the explanation call the police. If you are being denied access to your home or public facilities where you live…that you pay for don’t wait for the person(s) to call the police. Pull out your phone and call the authorities. Save your words for the officers you called out to the incident to assist you in the matter. It is understandable that you might see this as a risk as you don’t want calling the police to backfire on you. However, that fear might be what others know would hold you back. The 911 dispatch needs to hear from the victim in these situations not someone playing the victim card.

If you are out and about and feel unsafe call the police. This isn’t an attempt at revenge nor petty behavior. We have rights in this country, but that means nothing if won’t exercise said right. You are a taxpayer just like the white people that claim to feel unsafe, you have a right to feel safe. The police should not be a weapon a white person can use at will to harass and terrify black people because of their “feelings”. Time out for talking…dial 911; maybe when they find themselves in trouble with said police they will get the message.
