The Wolfenstein 2 On Nintendo Switch: All Eyes On Panic Button.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Last year, Nintendo confirmed that it will bring Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus on Switch. Now Doom is available on the console, and Bethesda has confirmed that the same team of developers who brought Doom on Switch is working for Wolfenstein 2 on Nintendo Switch. Bethesda has once again partnered with Panic Button studio for porting Wolfenstein 2. The publisher is actively focusing on the Nintendo Switch and treating the console very well. High profile titles like Skyrim and Doom are already available on the console and now the company is continuing the trend as Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is officially coming.

Wolfenstein 2 on Nintendo Switch is in development at Panic Button studio. The team worked on Doom port for Switch and fans are expecting the gameplay experience to remain unaffected. For Doom, the studio has done a commendable job but the port is still not perfect. Frame-rate drops were the main disappointment with Doom on Switch and how Panic Button will handle the technical part in Wolfenstein 2 on Nintendo Switch remains to be seen.

The biggest concern with the port is that it should be content complete. Wolfenstein 2 is an action-adventure shooter which you can play from a first-person perspective. Players fight enemies throughout different levels and utilize a smart health system in which the health of an individual player is divided into sections. These sections regenerate health. In the game, players can run, jump, swim, use melee attacks, explosives and firearms. There’s so much to do in the game and it would be interesting to see how Panic Button studio handles these elements on the Nintendo Switch.

In Doom, the developer didn’t make any changes to the content. It comes with all the levels and features on the Switch. Unless you compare the game’s pixel-to-pixel performance on Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, developer Panic Button has introduced a complete Doom experience to the console and it works pretty well. The studio didn’t divide the stages into separate parts on Doom and we expect to see the same happening with Wolfenstein 2 on Nintendo Switch. But in order to fit the game into the console’s memory, Panic Button might want to divide those stages into small parts. As far as the file size is concerned, both Doom and Wolfenstein 2 fall under the same 46GB size bracket but it is obviously going to be a different case on the Switch.

The game could be complete in terms of content availability, but it is a strong feeling that there will be some sacrifices and compromises. The biggest factor would be image quality. Before launch, everyone was expecting that Doom will support a 720p resolution on the Switch, but the game uses adaptive resolution. The same is possible with Wolfenstein 2 and it would be very disappointing. If you play the Switch version of Doom on a large TV screen, the compromises made in image quality are noticeable. The results are disappointing and we hope that Panic Button will work on these elements as the studio is gearing up to deliver Wolfenstein 2 on Nintendo Switch.

One of the biggest reasons why fans are worried about Wolfenstein 2 release on Switch because everyone expected that Doom would at least run perfectly at 30fps but that also didn’t happen. Frame-pacing in Doom is pretty bad for the Switch. Fortunately, it is not something which can not be fixed after release. So if it happens with Wolfenstein 2, the studio can easily fix such issues with a patch.

The Nazi-shooting game attracted a lot of controversies when it was released in late 2017.  The game made fun of some election campaign slogans, and despite its political tone, Bethesda smartly took the game beyond all the issues. Wolfenstein 2 picks up the storyline after the events of the original game, but even if this is your first game in the franchise, you won’t need to play the previously launched game to understand it. This is one of the best games released in 2017 and is arriving on the Switch sometime this year.
