(ThyBlackMan.com) Most people only think about food in terms of how much weight they want to lose. While looking fit is great, being fit within is a much healthier approach to life. There are aspects of your life which goes beyond your physique and adopting eating healthy eating habits can add to the quality and length of your life.

Dietitian Ashvini Mashru, MA, states “By examining the diets and lifestyles of certain populations around the world, scientists now have a vast body of evidence to support the theory that healthy eating habits contribute to sustained longevity and greater life expectancy”.

If your desire is to improve your quality of life, try to adopt these five eating habits that can help you live longer.

1.      Eat breakfast. A Harvard University research found that eating breakfast reduces the risk of becoming obese, having a heart attack, and developing diabetes. Eating breakfast in the morning helps to control insulin levels as well as your hunger. This makes it easier to eat more balanced meals throughout the day.

2.      Drink 8 glasses of water each day. It helps to keep water nearby all day so that you can sip on it throughout the day. You should drink enough water to keep yourself from ever feeling thirsty. As a rule of thumb, if your urine is clear or very light yellow, you are well hydrated. Minor hydration can have an effect on your physical and mental performance.

3.      Add Probiotics. Probiotics are the living microorganisms that live in your gut. They may improve digestion and help fight off bad bacteria, which helps to improve immune function. A good source of probiotics can be found in yogurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut.

4.      Stop eating when you are satisfied. Program your body to stop eating when you are no longer hungry. The goal is not to eat until you are full, at that point you are likely to be stuffed. Eating less helps you to live longer, especially if you learn to eat until you are 80% full.

5.      Eat from all found groups. It is common for popular diets to exclude foods from certain groups. It is important to have a balanced mix of carbohydrates, protein, and fats in each meal. We get nutrients from different sources, learn to eat the best from each food group rather than limiting yourself from vital nutrients and minerals.

There is more to life that looking good! Make yourself feel even better than what can be seen with the physical eye. Add quality to your life by eating a complete diet to ensure your body gets all the vitamins and minerals necessary to function. Your mental agility is dependent on proper nutrition.
