(ThyBlackMan.com) If you are waiting for the Android Wear 2.0 update on Asus Zenwatch 3 smartwatch, you will need to wait for some more time. Asus messed up things on Twitter that led many fans and media houses to believe that the company rolled out Android Wear 2.0 update on May 15.

Publications started spreading news suggesting readers to update their Zenwatch 3 to the latest version of the Android OS, but in reality, there is no such update available. On Twitter, the company confirmed that they made a mistake and the much awaited update is scheduled for the month end.

After several reports about Zenphone 3 getting Android Wear 2.0 update, many fans on Twitter started asking Asus UK about the update release. The company then cleared the air by responding to a fan saying that “we were mistaken.”

Why The Android Wear 2.0 Update Matters?

The Zenwatch 3 was launched in 2016 and since then the watch is running on the old version of Android Wear. This year in February, Google launched the biggest update for its Android OS for wearables. The updated smartwatch OS was available only on the two LG watches at the time of launch and was scheduled to arrive on many watches.

Since the announcement, Asus Zenwatch 3 users were waiting for the software release because the update brings significant changes and improvements.

The biggest change in Android Wear system is that Zenwatch 3 users will get standalone apps on their smartwatch. Android Wear 2.0 allows users to keep their phones away by not having to tether phone or synchronize with cloud.

Another thing that makes this update more exciting is the arrival of more standalone apps. According to Google, the developers are working on hundreds of apps, and the best thing is that people won’t miss the existing apps that support previous version of Android Wear system.

The Android Wear 2.0 will add Google Assistant to Zenwatch 3 as the new version of the OS supports the AI based voice assistant. So, you won’t have to take out your phone to set reminders or to find information, by pressing the button and saying “Ok Google,” you can activate the assistant and can ask questions or give voice commands.

The users of the Asus Zenwatch 3 know the real pain of Google notification cards covering the watch faces, making the display look cluttered. With the Android Wear 2.0 update for Asus Zenwatch 3, things will work in a different way.

It is completely understandable that the delay in Android Wear 2.0 release on Zenwatch 3 has left many fans disheartened, but the good thing is that it is finally happening this month.

Asus Discontinuing Zenwatch Products?

Meanwhile, the Taiwanese company is reportedly planning to discontinue Zenwatch series due to poor sales. Some sources from the manufacturer claim that Asus is shipping only 5-6k units per month across its Zenwatch product line.

The company will reportedly leave the Android Wear business as the sales are not as per its expectations. However, Asus has not confirmed anything about the same, the comments from the company are still awaited.

If the rumor about Asus discontinuing Zenwatch production turns out to be true, there are chances that the company will follow the footsteps of Samsung and Motorola, and introduce its own platform like Samsung’s Tizen.

No matter whether Asus introduces a new platform or discontinues production of Zenwatch, backing away from Google’s Android Wear platform will surely harm Google to some extent.

The Asus Zenwatch 3 and other watches from the product line are some of the most affordable smartwatches available till date and bringing the Android Wear 2.0 support will probably help the company boost its sales in the almost saturated smartwatch market. Other than the tweet, Asus has not shared any specific release details about the update.
