Paul Krugman Got it Right!

(ThyBlackMan.com) I Agree with Paul Krugman; a Conservative Republican Journalist who stated: “President Barack Obama is one of the most successful presidents in United States history.” Why? Because Barak Obama has had a successful term and a half and has accomplished things that prior presidents in the modern era have failed to do. When it comes to executing plans, President Obama has made things happen. I remember his campaign slogan in the beginning, “Yes, we can!” I recall when United States troops took out Osama Bin Laden in 2011. The President ordered the Special Forces unit to raid a secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in which the terrorist leader was killed. Those campaign words were shouted by people outside the White House that night loud enough for President Obama to hear them inside. “Yes, We Can! Yes, We Can!” That was a powerful moment in American history.

President Obama got Health Care Reform passed, after five presidents failed to do so. He created Universal Health Insurance and signed the Affordable Care Act (2010) that covered 32 million uninsured Americans beginning in 2014. The Affordable Care Act which allows a young adult to be covered under their parents insurance until they are 26, prescription discounts for seniors, and cutting out pre-existing conditions to cut health care costs and the number one cause of American’s long-term fiscal problems.2015-paul-krugman-economists

President Obama passed the $787 Billion dollar American Recover and Reinvestment Act in 2009 to spur economic growth and end the greatest recession since the Great Depression. Unemployment claims were lowered and 12 months after it was passed, the private sector began producing more jobs than it was losing. The United States was in trouble and President Obama got it out. Ending the War in Iraq and ordering military forces out of the Middle East beginning on December 18, 2011 was another move to help the economy.

Equal pay for equal work is something that women in the United States have fought for a long time to achieve. President Obama helped by passing the Lilli-Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009. The act allows victims of pay discrimination because of their gender leverage to challenge their employers without risking their jobs.

The American automobile industry was in trouble in 2009, and President Obama turned this around by giving $62 million in federal funds, on top of the $13.4 billion dollars in loans from the prior Bush administration, to aid the General Motor Company and Chrysler in a return for equity stakes and agreements to restructure the companies. Fast forward to 2011, the automakers gained market share for the first time in two decades.

The financial boom and then crisis in American was unprecedented in United States history. President Obama stepped in with congress to help these banks get back on their feet after the crash at almost zero cost to the government. It was a controversial move with the Treasury Department, but it worked and the United States economy is getting stronger because of it.

Equal rights is a theme in the Obama Administration and they ended in the 1990’s rules, allowing gay and lesbian persons to serve freely for their country. The president has also opening approved of gay and lesbian persons having the right to marry and be in domestic partnerships. This means that for the first time in American history, insurance agencies are now offering benefits to domestic partners regardless of sex.

President Obama has never been shy about talking to the American people about racism or letting his opinions be known when it comes to racially powered shootings that have taken place during his term. He has said openly that the issue of racial discrimination is “embedded deeply in society.” This was his reaction after the police officers who shot Michael Brown in Ferguson Mo., and Eric Garner in New York, were not indicted. The system is said to be faulty when the same prosecutors that work with police on a daily basis are asked to evaluate if the officers are guilty of a crime. The system definitely needs to be changed and President Obama seems to be on board with changing it
