(ThyBlackMan.com) I have lived long enough to testify to the following. Most apologies appear after the evil people do in the dark comes into the light. Hence, I view public apologies with extreme skepticism.
The above perspective provides ample opportunity for amusing moments when others accept the apologies of professional athletes whose private transgressions threaten a public fall from grace. I have always found it interesting that people will place the professional athletes that they cheer for on a nightly basis on a pedestal that contradicts practical realities that they are mere mortals afflicted with the same flaws as other humans.
My understanding that professional athletes are mere mortals afflicted with the same issues, troubles, and maladies that face ordinary folk allows me to remain unmoved when news breaks that yet another American athlete has violated undefined rules of civility and committed some transgression against a far too sensitive 
American public. Trea Turner – Washington Nationals, Sean Newcomb – Atlanta Braves, and Josh Hader – Milwaukee Brewers are the most recent American athletes to face the scorn of an offended American public because of social media activity, in this trios case it is the discovery of tweets that display their undeniable possession of bigoted thoughts during that period in their lives.
Make no mistake about it; I consider the alluded to tweets to be representative of the trio’s perspective on American race matters. In many ways, the alluded to communication is merely a glimpse of what whites who have grown weary of never-ending racial conflict in a land that they claimed ownership of long ago. Let’s be honest here, whites have become tired of what they consider the nuisance of Race. Unfortunately, the weary, weary blues that engulfs this nation over racial matters has not been sufficient to produce an honest discussion that leads to action.
Instead of addressing racial discord civilly and intelligently, Americans continue their centuries-old pattern of ducking and dodging the issue that the intellectual giant W.E.B. DuBois cited as “the problem of the twentieth century.” Such avoidance has been so effective that racial discord appears poised to become this nation’s foremost problem well into the new millennium.
Anyone who has paid attention to the racial discord in this nation, particularly as it regards surviving a culture storm will tell you that “mum is the word.” Put simply; the best thing anyone can do to ensure longevity in their professional career is to refrain from addressing racial matters in any arena, particularly social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Failure to exercise such caution will eventually result in your appearance before an unforgiving blood-thirsty public possessed by a single insatiable desire to destroy all that you have worked to build.
Not even the leaders of what amounts to a psychotic vengeful purge believe that the demise of those who express bigotry in the public arena will have any impact on this nation’s grandest tradition of racial hatred.
Fortunately for Trea Turner, Sean Newcomb, and Josh Hader, their bigoted tweets will cost them nothing more than slight embarrassment. Non-athletes will not be as fortunate.
At the present moment, every American should be aware that there is an angry mob standing at the ready to join others in a campaign aimed at destroying their lives for the slightest transgression. This incivility should frighten all as it calls for Americans to censor themselves or else. Until then, I think that the safest course of action for all is to simply “Hush” or realize that “mum” is the safest word that one can issue in this overly-sensitive nation.
