(ThyBlackMan.comEngineering is a field that has diversified in a truly amazing way over the last several decades. The industrial revolution transformed our approaches to engineering. Consequently, the field has kept evolving since then. There are now a number of different engineering disciplines that are wildly different from one another. One thing they do have in common, though, is that they make for excellent career paths.

The diversification of engineering has meant that it is relevant to more fields than ever before and, as a consequence, engineers are in constant demand. If you are gifted at maths and science, engineering offers a number of lucrative career opportunities in any one of a number of different fields. Below is a comparison of some of the most common engineering disciplines and how much they pay, on average.

Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineering is one of the most exciting of the many engineering fields to emerge in the last century. Aerospace engineers are tasked with designing new spacecraft and components, as well as managing missions to space, such as those to the international space station.

Aerospace engineers also work on projects for terrestrial flight, helping to design and develop both civilian and military aircraft.

Aerospace engineers earn between $67,850 and $158,700 with a median salary of $107,830.

Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineers design products using the principles of chemistry. The products in question are molecular creations whose purpose can range from helping to develop a fabric conditioner that can make clothes softer, to designing materials for specific purposes such as maximum fire resistance.

The work of a chemical engineer can have major implications for public health and, like most forms of engineering, it offers the opportunity to work a job which makes a positive difference to people’s lives.

The salary of a chemical engineer ranges from $59,470 to $157,160 with a median of $97,360.

Civil Engineering

The job of a civil engineer is incredibly varied, but it revolves around designing buildings and infrastructure. From schools to highways, a civil engineer has to work out where to build things and has to ensure that the cities and towns they are designed for can function efficiently. As well as identifying the prime locations for various buildings, it is also the responsibility of a civil engineer to ensure that all structures are resistant to earthquakes, floods, and any other stresses they are likely to be affected by.

If the work of a civil engineer sounds like it appeals to you then consider studying for an online MCE degree. An online master civil engineering program allows you to obtain your degree at your own pace and is therefore perfect for someone looking to switch careers in the future.

The median salary for a chemical engineer is $97,360, with a range of $59,470 at the lower end and $157,160 representing the highest salary.

Engineering is a field so varied in its focuses that there is a subsection of it to appeal to anyone, whatever their tastes and interests.
