(ThyBlackMan.com) From Jackie Robinson to Jeremy Lin NY sports have always had its pulse on America’s potential. Love it or hate it, so has NY media.
Combine them and you get something beautiful.
Embarrass them and you come up with something ugly.
My first example of the latter is a recent article written by Phil Mushnick of the NY Post whom called out Brooklyn Nets owner Jay Z.
For some strange reason Phil Mushnick boxed himself in by writing:
“Why the Brooklyn Nets when they can be the New York N——s? The cheerleaders could be the Brooklyn B—-hes or Hoes. Team logo? A 9 mm with hollow-tip shell casings strewn beneath. Wanna be Jay-Z hip? Then go all the way!”
What would ignite such unprofessional statements?
Being in NY sports for over 25 years, its possible Phil Mushnick covered some of the biggest athletes on the planet. 
For example, New York is home to Derek Jeter of the Yankees, Carmelo Anthony of the Knicks and Darrelle Revis of the Jets.
How does this work?
If Derek Jeter has a good game, does Phil Mushnick write truth? Or does he skip to ’white players’ for his column? Does he sprinkle in A little color to keep his job? Enquiring minds want to know.
I also have a few questions.
How did Phil Mushnick’s statement make it to press?
Would it bypass educated Editors?
It will cost Phil Mushnick a few pennies as African American organizations look toward New York Post for answers.
An anonymous source talked extensively about this topic,
Saying,
“Plans are being made to March over racism and its ugly tentacles with calls for Phil Mushnick to dissolve his position as columnist”.
I disagree with him on that statement.
Why?
I’ll let you in on a little secret in sports media. An unspoken one.
There is absolutely NO way on earth Phil Mushnick covers sports and really dislikes people of color. It’s impossible. Especially in NYC’s melting pot atmosphere. I refused to be bamboozled by Phil Mushnick.
This move has celebrity written all over it. He’s going to laugh all the way to the bank. Granted, he’s way out of line but I came up with my own remedy for Mushnick. I’d rather accompany Phil Mushnick to ‘Harlem Children Zone’ and teach sports journalism.
Trust me, it’ll be fun.
We’ll dine at Sylvia’s soul food restaurant on Malcolm X boulevard while enroute to our new ‘writing gig’.
So in the end, Phil Mushnick will arrive back on the doorsteps of professionalism. At least I know Jay Z will be proud.
We’ll be the same colors of his Brooklyn Nets logo, newspapers across the globe and Phil Mushnick’s Kangol.
