(ThyBlackMan.com) Former Alaska Governor and current Fox News contributor Sarah Palin gave her assessment of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul being the “only one” concerned with trying to reduce the federal deficit.
Although she did state that she disagrees with Ron Paul’s foreign policy views, the former Republican presidential candidate said that she “appreciates” the Texas congressman’s message for reducing federal spending.
Ron Paul has consistently stated throughout the Republican primary race that he would like to cut $1 trillion from federal spending during his first year as president. He also wants to eliminate the following federal agencies; the Department of the Interior, Department of Energy, Department of Commerce, Department of Education and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
According to his “Plan to Restore America,” the Texas Republican would also favor reducing the federal workforce by 10 percent, and would implement a salary for himself as president of $39,336, which is equivalent what the average American worker earns annually.
Ron Paul has been criticized though for his views on reducing the U.S. military presence abroad, which he also says would help to balance the federal budget.
Sarah Palin disagrees with that notion, but definitely supports his budget cutting proposals, as she stated Friday.
“I still sense his desire to be more of an isolated-type country and not be as aware and active on the international scene when it comes to protecting our allies like Israel and doing all that we can. That is my hesitancy there still with Ron Paul’s candidacy,” said Sarah Palin.
The Texas congressman Ron Paul has combated the opposition to his foreign policy views by constantly stating that he receives more campaign donations from active military members than any of his rival candidates.
“However, on the domestic front, he is the only one who has been so adamantly passionate about doing something about the suffocating debt, about doing something about reining in government growth and actually slashing budgets – $1 trillion a year, he’s been specific about until we get our hands around this – I respect that,” said Sarah Palin.
The former Alaska governor Sarah Palin also stated that she believes the Republican “establishment” is attacking Ron Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Republican strategists and conservative commentators have frequently referred to Ron Paul as the “libertarian candidate” in the Republican primary race. He addressed that characterization in recent presidential candidate debates by saying that his main view of reducing government involvement in domestic affairs is a “very conservative” ideology.
The popular Tea Party figure Sarah Palin gave support to Newt Gingrich last week leading up to the South Carolina Republican primary election, although she did not specifically state the she was endorsing him.
After Sarah Palin made her comments on Fox News Friday morning,Ron Paul’s campaign team posted her comments to his website, along with the following message:
“If conservatism is about reining in and limiting government, there is only one conservative in this race. If the Tea Party is about reining in government and debt, there is only one Tea Partier in this race. Sarah Palin is right.”
The former Alaska governor Sarah Palin support likely will not give Ron Paul any votes in Florida though, as he has chosen to skip campaigning in the Sunshine state to focus on the upcoming caucuses in Nevada and Minnesota.
