Herman Cain, The Voice of America…

(ThyBlackMan.com) As I prepare to write this, I reflect upon the year 2004. It was the first year I was eligible to vote. I specifically remember the state America was in. We were a nation at war with enemies foreign and abroad. Our nation’s national security was essentially the most imperative nature of interest at that time. I remember viewing George W. Bush as a man of courage and determination to protect the interest of the United States.

I eagerly and unapologetically casted my vote for the incumbent Republican candidate. Two years later, I found myself privileged and honored to be positioned in Washington, D.C. as a White House intern in the Bush Administration. I doubted if I would ever find myself having the same enthusiasm and excitement over a leader again as I did in George W. Bush. Well, little did I know what will occur in the year 2011.

Herman Cain is not the typical, status quo politician. To the relief of many, he is not a politician at all. The former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza is vying to occupy the Oval Office without any political experience. Surprisingly, I like this fact. The politicians of the 21st century is seasoned and experienced in being  politically correct. The stance of saying what people want to hear and the attitude of trying not to offend anyone is typical in Washington. We are all too familiar with the scenario of elite politicians trying to connect with a middle-class America. How can you connect with the poor if you’ve never been poor? How do you know what it’s like to suffer, if you’ve been fed with a silver spoon?

I resonate with Herman Cain because he is not elite or an establishment politician. He is normal….like me. His background is most appealing to me. His father worked three jobs: barber, janitor, and chauffeur, just to make sure his family’s needs were provided for. This appeals to me personally. Several years ago, my father, a retired Army veteran, had lost his job. Until he was able to find a good, profitable steady job, he had to settle for what he could find. He worked at Lowe’s and JC Penney’s, which was not enough to meet the financial needs. I acutely remember him coming home after working a long shift at one job, just to eat a meal and take a small nap, and then head out the door to embark upon the next shift. I remember my mother informing me of the fact we were cutting back and not eating out as much and watching what we spend. There were times when we didn’t quite know where our next meal was going to come from.

I know what it is like to struggle. So does Herman Cain. He resonates with the many Americans who are struggling to find work and provide meals for their families. I do not want a President who makes a good sound byte, who can have a dramatic oral presentation from a teleprompter, or who flip-flops on the issues on a consistent basis.

I want a President who is authentic and genuine. I felt like George W. Bush could keep America safe from another 9/11. I feel like Herman Cain, with his humble beginnings and his executive experience in the private sector working with Coca-Cola, Burger King, GodFather’s Pizza, being the President of the National Restaurants Association and taking companies who were facing bankruptcy and financial struggles and turning them into a successful, thriving business, will encourage me to live the American dream. I believe he will look out and protect the interest of the American people. I do not believe Cain is interested in being a career politician and being the keynote speaker for fundraisers and union banquets, but I strongly feel that he recognizes the burden Americans are carrying.

I support Cain’s candidacy, becomes he gives straight talk and is not afraid to tell the truth like it is. Whether it is admonishing African-Americans for voting Democrat overwhelmingly without reason or rebuking liberals for blaming their poor conditions on the wealthy, Herman is not afraid to take a stand and to be publicly honest with the American people.

The political climate in America is quite intriguing and interesting to behold. Americans have reached a point in their life where they have been entrenched and enslaved by the political thresholds of Washington and they are tried of it. They need a fresh and bold perspective. They need someone who knows what it is like to be at the bottom and work their way up the ladder. They need a voice that hears the hurting and promotes the concept that you can be what you want to be without the government being interference. They need a voice of sanity. That voice is found in Herman Cain.
