(ThyBlackMan.com) It is not surprising to get excited with everything that’s new – new relationships, new job, new things. However, as time passes by, you will start to get bored and exhausted with it. When you’ve been working on the same company with the same job for years, things will seem like a burden and not a blessing.
Here are top 6 tips to get back your motivation at work:
Divide your goals into bite-sized ones.
Some goals that may look daunting can keep you from finishing a task. It may even hinder you from starting to do it as well. An effective way to motivate yourself with seemingly scary goals is to divide it into small, bite-sized goals.
List down the tasks needed to reach that big goal. If, for example, your employer asks you to interview a famous fashion blogger, you may start with sending her an email first. While waiting for the approval, you may now take down notes of what to ask the interviewee, choose the wardrobe you’ll wear for the big day, and practice yourself in the mirror.
With that, you’ll find yourself excited as you check every task that has been accomplished and will not even noticed that you have already reached your big goal.
Take breaks.
Focusing on your computer screen for eight straight hours will not only drain you physically but also mentally. Just like a machine that needs cooling down, your mind and body should take a rest as well. This may mean getting up from your office chair and taking a stroll outside the building or making a call with your loved ones. If you find yourself a bit sleepy, go ahead and take that power nap. Taking breaks will also recharge your energy for a more productive work.
Learn new things.
Another reason for demotivation at work is career stagnation. You may be working on the same company for years and yet you have not been promoted. You may be doing the same tasks and haven’t learn anything new for a long time because of the routinary work.
If your current employer is not offering workshops or trainings for your career growth, look for ways to learn on your own. You may want to consider learning online which may add to your credentials, too. Roam around book stores and purchase some books, or find video tutorials and how to’s on the internet.
Don’t focus on the uncontrollables.
There are several things that might be stressing you out at work. And some of these are actually things that are already out of your control. Focusing on the uncontrollables will just drain your energy. While you may not have a control every situation on your job, you can control how you react on it.
If you are talking on an irate client on the phone, you can’t just mute the conversation and expect to resolve their problem. Instead of focusing on the tone of his voice, actively listen to his concerns and be aware of your responses.
You may not be able to control the rain, but you can always bring an umbrella.
Reward yourself for a job well done.
Creating a reward system is not only applicable for kids. You may also treat yourself for an ice cream after a hard day’s work. After finishing every big task, you may check out something on your bucket list – may it be traveling somewhere for relaxation or simply pampering yourself with a massage on a weekend.
Rediscover your “Why”.
Look back and remind yourself of the reason why you are doing what you are doing right now. Recall the days when you see your job as a blessing. Take time to check the mission and vision you have made when you are just starting.
While there are circumstances when quitting your job is the best decision, sometimes you just need some pondering and a few pauses for you to get back your motivation at work.
