(ThyBlackMan.com) There are only two real contenders when it comes to buying a laptop – Microsoft and Apple. Both have their fans, and both can take a while to get used to if you’re transitioning. Still, if your laptop needs come calling, you may find that the other side tempts you.

These two programmes offer very different experiences. To assume that you can switch from one to the other with little thought would be madness. If you’ve used Microsoft laptops up until now, think twice before jumping to the MacBook ship. It makes sense that Apple has finally caught your eye. They’re currently taking the laptop game to new levels. But, ask yourself this to make sure you won’t regret switching later on.

Can you still use your most needed programmes?

Microsoft and Apple tend to support different programmes. As such, it’s essential that you consider how you use your current laptop. Do you rely on a programme which doesn’t make an appearance on Apple’s app list? Would you need to download extensive software to make your top programmes work? If yes, you may be best off sticking with what you know. Research should, however, reveal that there are Apple alternatives for most Windows programmes. In the same way you can download iTunes for Microsoft, you can also download programmes like Visio for Mac. With a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can even continue to use programmes like Word and Excel. If that’s all you need this laptop for, then, there’s no reason not to go ahead.

How would this work with your other devices?

It’s also worth considering how a MacBook would work with your devices. These are ideal for users of iPhones as all Apple programmes work well together. But, you may find that a MacBook isn’t such an ideal fit for your Windows phone. Even after downloading the Windows Utility app, you may find your capabilities are restricted. For the most part, this is because Apple understandably wants you to use their products across the board. If you spend a lot of time exporting photos of streaming music on a Windows phone, this could make life harder. If you’re already using an iPhone or are considering one, though, a MacBook may be the best option.

Do you like how Apple desktops work?

It’s also worth considering whether you like Apple desktops. These are entirely different systems to Windows, and they work in very different ways. Rather than internet explorer, a Macbook has safari. Files are also stored differently, with no familiar documents folder in place. These are benefits for many Mac users as they make for sleek appearance. But, if you’re a creature of habit, you might want to try out a MacBook in an Apple store before breaking the bank for a laptop which doesn’t suit.

There is, of course, no right or wrong. It may be that you get along far better with a Macbook. Still, by asking yourself these questions, you can avoid a costly mistake.
