One more thing that you need to know is that your body can not reach the ketosis state in a day or two. It needs several days to reach that level. Interestingly, keto diet followers are often told that they should eat protein-rich food. Keep in mind that protein can delay ketosis or affect it in a negative way.

The ketogenic diet or keto diet is primarily used to treat epilepsy in children, and that too in a hard-to-control situation. If you don’t know, epilepsy is a neurological disorder that triggers sensory disturbance and is associated with the brain’s abnormal electrical activity. Remember that many health experts have put hypotheses to explain how the keto diet works, but its effects are still unknown.

Experts have also studied the ketogenic diet health benefits for potential therapeutic use for health problems like Alzheimer’s disease, autism, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, headache, pain, Parkinson’s disease, neurotrauma, and sleep disorders. Some researchers have also suggested that the keto diet can be used as a treatment for cancer. It is worth noting that none of the evidence of keto diet benefits is convincing enough to get the clinical recommendation, but still, the keto diet is advertised as an all-in-one solution for health problems which is not completely true.

The keto diet is difficult to follow and it is very restrictive. It completely takes you away from healthy whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and many important nutrients. The keto diet is not completely useless, but it doesn’t mean that the general population should start following it just because it reduces weight. The ketogenic diet may have ill effects on your health. So, if you’re still asking “who should follow a keto diet and who should not?” the answer is simple. Unless you are told to follow keto diet by a professional doctor, there’s no point in following such an extreme way of losing weight or reducing sugar intake.

If weight-loss is your goal then you can achieve this goal by following a simple formula – burn more calories than you consume. It can be done by exercise or yoga.
