(ThyBlackMan.com) It’s not difficult to convince yourself that the world is in a terrible state. All you need to do is read or watch the news for a few minutes! But actually, while the news depicts the reality of events, it’s not really a snapshot of reality. The world is a much safer and better place to be than most people realize. Indeed, there’s much more to like about the world than dislike, and this shouldn’t be taken for granted! Take health. This is one area of life that’s much better than in the past, and it’s getting better all the time, too. Below, we take a look at some ways the world’s in a healthier state than ever before.
Less False Information
You’ve got feel sorry for the older generation. They were encouraged to smoke, even though the tobacco companies knew the truth about the damage it was causing to their health. Cigarettes were even given out free to people in the armed services because they thought tobacco “calmed the nerves.” Thankfully, we now live in an age where false information is harder to spread around. Thanks to the internet and a relatively free society, we can know what’s good for us and what isn’t before we decide to pursue a particular action.
Science Breakthroughs
Of all the things that we should be most thankful for, it’s science. There used to be groundbreaking breakthroughs every few decades; now, we’re getting them more often. Science has made it possible for people who have conditions that were previously considered a death sentence – such as AIDS – to live a full, rich life. And there’s reason to be hopeful for the future, too – they currently predict that cancer will be cured within a decade or so.
Safer Food and Water
If you’re ever offered the chance to travel to the far past, you should say no. And the reason why is because you’d probably die within weeks; your stomach would not be able to handle the food and drink from those times, which were beyond dirty and caused many premature deaths. We take for granted that we can eat and drink without getting sick, but the number of illnesses from unsafe food and water is still high. Thankfully, thanks to improved bacteriological testing supplies, we’re able to reduce the chances of contaminated water and foods reaching the public. While there are still many people living without clean water, we’ve made big strides forward – and continue to do so, too.
Improved Mental Health Services
One reason to be proud to be a part of the modern world is that there’s much more openness about mental health issues. Whether you’re male or female, young or old, there’s no shame in talking about conditions of the mind. We now understand that it’s not a weakness, but a chemical disturbance in the mind. Because of increased attention on this issue, we’re also able to share some bona fide ways to boost happiness, such as exercising, eating well, and meditation.
