(ThyBlackMan.com) How do we get what we really, really want from life? This question presupposes you already know what it is you want; now to the next stage. How? In some philosophical circles, the emphasis is not on ‘how’, but rather the ‘what’ or ‘why’ of our aspirations. ‘How’ is supposedly left to a greater source than us. We pray about it and then release it to a force greater than we can imagine.
Although I do subscribe to that theory in my own personal and professional dreams, I also know that ‘faith without works is dead’, and that we must put forth an effort if we wish to see our dreams come true. In that sense, then, ‘how’ is totally within our orbit of control – if we are willing to put forth the effort. How we go about our dreams is just as important as figuring out the why. It’s all about attitude and developing that impenetrable spirit of can do.
Here’s a four-step process to how to get what we want from life.
Think
A noted scientist, when asked what was wrong with people fundamentally, replied, “We simply don’t think”. That may sound oversimplified, but have you ever asked yourself in a moment of struggle and uncertainty, “what was I thinking?” If we admit it, we’d see our thinking has at times been suspect and susceptible to many things beyond our control.
The first step in getting what you want is to think. Think right. Or at least as right as you can.
Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.
-Marcus Aurelius
Idea
What’s your idea? Studies show that over the course of the average human life span (some seventy-five to eighty years) many of us have entertained thousands of ideas about what success looked – what our ‘golden ticket’ would be. What happened to those ideas? For many, they simply got lost in the fog of life; for others they were laughed at and, sadly, for too many, they simply vanished from consciousness.

Try
If your idea has managed to stay on radar, the next step to getting what you want is simply to try – put some action under it. And when you try, expect success, although failure is more likely. You will never get what you want until you try. If you are laughed at, ridiculed, and mocked, it lets you know you are on to something. Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he got it right.
A bruise is a lesson…and each lesson makes us better.
-George R.R. Martin
Do It Again and Again
This is the grave-yard of many an idea. A lot of people do indeed ‘try’ to bring fruition to their idea, but give up after the first failure or maybe the second one. They didn’t do it again and again and again; slowly the death of the idea occurred on the inside, its outward demise just a matter of time. Your idea must undergo multiple births and‘re-deaths’ before it becomes enraptured within you.
Great things happen to those who don’t stop believing, trying, learning and being grateful.

To get what you want requires an impenetrable spirit of can do.
