(ThyBlackMan.com) Donald Trump is a menace to society.
George Orwell prophetically noted, One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes a revolution in order to establish a dictatorship.
That Donald Trump has hijacked American democracy and is using it to reward his cronies and his family, and the fact that this is happening right before our very eyes, is as shocking as it is appalling.
That Trump has the cordial support of the Republican establishment is even more outrageous. The so-called populist revolution known as ‘Trumpism’ has enormous consequences for the welfare of our country and of the world as we know it.
If the Russian collusion investigation does not end with impeachment of the president, usurpation of the 25th Amendment governing the ability of the president to carry out his duties should be considered a viable alternative.
Either way, Donald Trump – due to his efforts to obstruct justice, his endorsement of bigotry and his blatant regard for international order – is a menace to society.
Obstruction of Justice
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., once wrote, The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.
As of this writing, President Trump has not been charged with any specific high crimes and misdemeanors. There is little doubt, however, based on the findings of three different investigatory bodies, that Trump’s immediate circle actively collaborated with enemy operatives in the months leading up to the 2016 election. It’s a stretch of one’s imagination to believe that Trump’s hands are clean, and that he had zero knowledge of what his underlings (including his own son) were up to.
If immediate collusion with the Russians cannot be proven, then surely the president’s constant public comments and behind the scene maneuverings reach the level of obstruction. We know that Trump clandestinely attempted to halt the Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Michael Flynn and the Russian collusion investigation.
At the very least, Mr. Trump is attempting to manipulate the outcome which, by definition, constitutes obstruction.
Endorsement of Bigotry
During the height of the wave of violent and sometimes non-violent Middle Eastern revolutions, also known as the ‘Arab Spring’, the Egyptian Diplomat, Mohamed ElBaradei, commented on the prospects of Egypt replacing one dictatorship with another dictatorship. ElBaradei said bluntly, You don’t get the fox to be in charge of the chicken coop.
With a sordid history of racial antagonism in his paternal past as it relates to housing discrimination in New York City, Donald Trump is the fox who’s opened the chicken coop of festering hate in America.
Donald Trump has disgracefully embraced bigotry in America. We are all familiar with his cantankerous endorsement of white supremacists in Charlottesville; he has made derogatory comments against Muslims, Mexicans, Blacks and others.
If hate and bigotry have an ally in the White House, hate and bigotry will have friends everywhere.
Has there ever been an American president who nursed an affiliation with fringe hate groups? Of course! Yet in an era so closely connected as our global village, one in which information can be accosted by fringe elements in an instant, you’d think the last place that would act as a bastion for prejudice would be the White House and its occupant.
International Bully Politics
Through his willful disregard for order and his bullish attempts attempt to coerce governments, Donald J. Trump is a menace to world security.
Let us not deceive ourselves, wrote the American financier and philanthropist Bernard Baruch, we must elect world peace or world destruction.
Take an intellectually-unbalanced public official who has unfettered access to nuclear codes and pair that individual with another petulant and crazed world leader half a world away and you have the recipe for global nuclear disaster.
There is nothing presidential about making unilateral threats, about engaging in child-like rants about who has the biggest button and about showing disdain for international protocol.
The inimitable Justice Thurgood Marshall once wrote, Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on.
We must act to protect our democracy.
Donald Trump is a menace to society.
