(ThyBlackMan.com) As a retired soldier, I found John Kelly’s defense Kelly Press Conference of Donald Trump’s conversations with Gold Star families this week very disappointing. General (Retired) Kelly has become the latest Donald Trump enabler, joining current and former White House Press Secretaries, Republican leaders in Congress, the Vice President, and the media outlets that defend Trump’s childish, offensive behavior, and his blatant lies.
The United States military puts great of emphasis on loyalty, and respect for leadership and the chain of command. The military puts greater importance on morals, honor and ethical behavior; attributes Donald Trump are clearly lacking and not interested in displaying. By not calling Trump out, and addressing why the conversation of Gold Star families became an issue in the first place, Kelly compromised his own integrity. Kelly also joined the rest of the so-called leaders in Washington that refuse to stand up to Donald Trump.
I don’t believe Trump intentionally meant to upset the widow, and family of Sgt. La David Johnson. I do believe the President’s inability to show sincere compassion, and articulate that compassion into words is likely what’s at fault here. Regardless, we must take a widow at her word if she says she was offended by Trump’s phone call. That should not be debated or challenged by anyone. I personally don’t think any calls to Gold Star families should be made public, but this whole issue was caused by Trump, his obsession with Obama, and his constant desire to pat himself on the back.
When Donald Trump was elected President, I resigned myself to accepting it and I hoped the behavior Trump displayed during the presidential campaign would change. Trump’s behavior and his lies have only gotten worse. Instead of leading our great country, Donald Trump has created endless controversies with his twitter account. The hurtful, divisive speeches Trump gives at his rallies has emboldened hate groups, and turned Americans against each other. This week John McCain, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush, all spoke out against this divisiveness without mentioning Trump by name.
Donald Trump disrespects the office of the President of the United States daily with his behavior and his lies. The news media outlets that call him on them are called “Fake News”. Meanwhile leaders in Congress remain quiet or just ignore what Trump is doing all together. The only Congressmen that speak out against Trump are those not running for re-election. Trump’s enablers seem to care more about partisan politics, their political survival and their jobs than they do about America.
Blind loyalty to Donald Trump is hurting our country. During Trump’s controversial August speech after the deadly hate rally in Charlottesville, Kelly stood behind Trump with his head down and remained silent. Kelly didn’t say a word when it was the perfect time to do so. John Kelly should have remained silent this week too. History on this President is still being written. History will judge John Kelly and the rest of our current leaders on what they did, but more importantly what they didn’t do during this crucial time in American History.

I’m disgusted by the backsliding of morals in our country. That people are becoming desensitized to vulgar language and treatment of anyone who the President deems it is ok to bash on Twitter or in the Media. I believe that the middle class and upper elites are fearful of losing their privilege in America, they exploited that fear and sold it to the less educated working people, and now we’re all paying for it with “Our President”. He uses fear as a tool, that’s what all this division is about. I really do think it’s a great big game to him. We have all been properly warned by him, his wife, his family, he doesn’t know how to loose. This is even more frightening on a Foreign Relations scope when he insists on insulting our enemies on Twitter and decrying that negotiations are a waste of time. I’m not an expert on Foreign Relations but I am still going to say this is a bad thing to say out in the open, on the internet. Maybe part of his cause so much damage and noise at home is part of something else to keep us distracted off the “real issues” I used to think that, I no longer think this Administration is that orchestrated.
Sadly Matt Drayton is 100% correct. I am so disappointed in our president and all those that voted for him. I understand the desire for change in Washington but I will never understand how nearly half the voters could possibly think that Donald Trump was the right person to deliver that change.
