(ThyBlackMan.com) Fans are criticizing the Middle-earth: Shadow of War microtransactions system introduced by the game publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Everyone is asking Monolith developers if they are working under pressure because the new system is completely insane. If don’t know, the Shadow of War features an in-game store called The Market from where you can buy almost anything to save time in the game. In simple terms, you can actually pay to win in Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
No one knows why the company has become so money-hungry that it is apparently killing the game before the launch. The game is scheduled to hit store shelves on October 10 this year but it seems that those who were eagerly waiting for the game are no more interested in buying it.
The game’s predecessor, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was a big hit. It was even a GOTY (Game of The Year) contender. For both Monolith and Warner Bros. it was a surprise hit and because of the game’s unique mechanics, the developers got the chance to establish a franchise. The sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War, with its four editions, is ready for shipping at AAA price, but the insane move by the company will likely hinder the game’s success.
Through the in-game store, players can purchase various items including War Chests, Loot Chests, XP Boosts, and Bundles. Read on to know what each of these means for Shadow of War players. But before you deep dive into the benefits, here’s what you’ll have to pay in order to achieve them.
You can either pay for these items by spending Mirian (an in-game currency) or Gold. If your question is: “how to get them?” There are only two ways. You can participate in the in-game events to earn a small amount of gold and Mirian or you can pay real money and get as much as you want.
Why would you need them? Because it’s needed to acquire Loot Chests that contain Gear (weapons and armor). These weapons come in different levels of rarity, so when you will be equipping them or upgrading them, your character’s ability will be increased. If you want to level up faster, the Loot Chests will help you gain XP Boosts. Paying for this is completely up to you, but if you decide to pay, things will be easier for you.
Next thing you can get from the game’s store is War Chest. It helps to forge a strong army. Customization of Orc Followers and leveling up is also possible if you buy War Chests. Buy XP Boosts and you won’t have to struggle hard to level up Talion. If you don’t want to buy the abovementioned items separately, go for the Bundles as they contain Loot Chests, XP Boosts and War Chests in a single package.
In its official announcement, the game publisher Warner Bros. says “No content in the game is gated by Gold.” It’s good that players can earn Gold normally, but Warner Bros. also says that Gold “saves time.” What does it mean? It means that you can buy if you want to so that you won’t have to struggle to earn it because according to the company, “Gold is awarded in small amounts at specific milestones.”
Since it’s a single-player game, Warner Bros. wants to make sure that it can charge players as much as possible because, in multiplayer, such moves are criticized, but here, they don’t need to worry more about the competition between players.
So the message WB is trying to convey with the Middle-earth: Shadow of War microtransactions is that you can spend more money to play less and complete the game faster. Now when the company is asking to pay more to play less, many questions come to mind, for example: is the game poorly designed? Is the game really very slow that the players would want to skip some of its parts, quests or missions? The questions will remain there as the game is due for launch.
Middle-earth: Shadow Of War will arrive in October on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also be released on the iOS and Android platforms.
