(ThyBlackMan.com) African Americans are being targeted and exterminated, one person at a time. Most of you thought police brutality was based on a few isolated cases like Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, Philando Castille, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner. You were led to believe that because the media reported it that way, your city councils and mayors minimized the dame and the real true number of police brutality cases were held back from the public. Others of you paid no attention because you didn’t believe it could happen to you. The character assassinations of African American victims strengthened the false narrative that he or she must have been the one at fault – thus deserving of the punishment. And many of you went about your business leaving it at that. But police brutality is rampant in America and not simply a few isolated cases.

I suggest you stop what you are doing and visit www.killedbypolice.net or www.policemisconduct.net immediately to see for yourself. These websites (and others) monitor police brutality. The Metro Atlanta Crime Commission (atlantacrimecommission@yahoo.com) also monitors police brutality cases, provides national conference calls, information and resources for prevention, intervention and lawful curative solutions to police brutality. There are also watchdog groups in many major cities so open your internet search engine and start looking.
You are NOT exempt from becoming a possible victim of police brutality. You may say you don’t do anything wrong that could result in such an outcome. But if your people are a target, you are too – no matter where you live, what you drive or how much money you make. You are an African American and thus a potential target. With President Trump failing to address the issue of police brutality at all yet blanketly supporting the police, this has caused the worse cops around to believe they can get away with abusing your people.

You can be laying on the ground and handcuffed. Or simply sitting in your car. Yes it’s that bad. And police departments around this country generally DO NOT do any routine psychological evaluations of their officers once they are hired.

In some places it is illegal. Whenever you are stopped by the police, let someone know where you are and what is happening as quickly as you can. Quietly gather information such as badge numbers, names on name plates, patrol car numbers on side of car, time of day, witnesses etc. Obtain legal services like Legal Shield. Know your right and voice them. But never try to bluff by saying you know your rights if you don’t know your rights.
You can impact the dynamics of an encounter with the police. Your goal must be to leave the scene with no tickets, no charges and free, with your safety intact every time. This must be the goal even if the police officer is obviously wrong, racist, belligerent and violating your rights. We must choose our battles and when those battles should occur. forget pride, ego and your rights – at that moment its more about survival. Wisdom dictates that you do not take on battles you are not likely to win. So take a deep breath, stay calm, know your rights and handle the matter.
