(ThyBlackMan.com) It’s 2016, and the prominence of the internet cannot be understated. In fact, the number of fixed UK broadband lines is around 24 million. It’s an incredible figure, and it’s only going to rise.
Most modern guys will need the internet, in spades. It could be there for your job. It could be there for your dating profile. Or it could simply be a way for you to stream all the latest TV shows. Whatever your need, 99 percent of us use it on a daily basis, and it’s so normal at this point that we don’t even notice.
But how much is it costing you? Line rental and broadband packages can be quite hefty. It may not feel like it, but there are a ton of ways to cut the cost of that broadband bill. It may seem like a hassle (and it sometimes is!) but changing one or two small things can mean big savings.
-
Get your negotiating hat on
Look, the people who work at these broadband providers are humans too. They can be swayed by a smart talker, or the risk of losing a customer. Quote a price from a different provider and see if the new one can match or beat it. Tell your provider you’re leaving them for someone else, citing cheaper prices as the reason. You may be surprised at the money you can save.
-
Combine your monthly packages!
Most of us, besides subscribing to an internet provider, will also subscribe to a TV package. Often, these are two separate bills, meaning costs are high for both. However, you can combine the two into one mega-pack which cuts your expenses significantly.
For example, Sky TV and broadband is a neat way to get both services from one place. Because it’s from one source, it’s cheaper than it would be if you bought them separately. Going with a single provider also opens the doors to many introductory offers and freebies, like cheaper line rental for 6 months. Everyone guy wants to check out the latest episode of Game of Thrones, but you don’t have to break the bank.

Choose a package that matches your needs
Online activity made up 8.3% of the UK’s GDP in recent years, so it’s a big market. However, it could be a largely unnecessary investment.
The assumption that most people need the internet to function is a fair one. But how much do you need? Do you need that super fast lightning speed connection at a premium price? Or would you be better with a basic service that gets the job done?
Seriously evaluate what you use your broadband for. If you just watch the occasional YouTube video, chances are you don’t need a monster connection. If you’re streaming video games and watching Netflix all day, then you’ll probably need a boost.

Pay by direct debit
Many providers will charge you if you don’t pay by direct debit. If you choose not to, you’ll be charged a small handling fee, and direct debit can cut this out fast. Direct debit payments are also made automatically, so you won’t have to worry about sorting them every month.
In addition to this, see if your provider sends you paper bills. Some companies like to charge for this, but you can opt out if you like. This leaves you with the alternative of receiving eBills, so be sure you have an active email account first.
