Ben Carson and Kanye West: A Budding Bromance.

(ThyBlackMan.com) I love Kanye West’s music. Now that we’ve gotten that out the way, I must say that over the years I’ve loved less and less of the person Kanye West presents himself to be. For me, Kanye ain’t been right since his mama died. Rest in Peace Ms. Donda. Since her untimely passing Kanye has gotten more eccentric, non-sensical, and just plain crazy. While his brand of crazy has contributed to some awesome music, Yeezus notwithstanding, it has also led to some questionable life decisions, most recently his budding bromance with Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson.

Ben Carson is a brilliant man. I have no qualms with his intelligence, his pioneer accomplishments in pediatric neurosurgery, or his grassroots backed campaign that’s led to his surge in the polls poising him in the perfect position to take the top Republican spot from Donald Trump.

My issue with Ben Carson is his brainwashed house negro attitude.

In 2013 he made this statement:

“You know Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery. And it is in a way, it is slavery in a way, because it is making all of us subservient to the government, and it was never about health care. It was about control.”

Or this quote from his USA Today op-ed on #BlackLivesMatter

“The notion that some lives might matter less than others is meant to enrage. That anger is distracting us from what matters most.”

These statements and others on Islam, gay marriage and gay rights in general, and other widely considered progressive topics proves this Presidential contender is a chocolate dipped establishment conservative. His politics are fine if you vote for that sort of thing but the Kanye connection… I don’t see it.

George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.”

That was Kanye West. A prophetic statement at a time when Black America needed it most.

We probably shouldn’t judge a person based on one Freudian slip, but that statement, in the context that it was made, was more than just a slip of the tongue. It was insight into the soul of a man who cared about his people and made music for their spirits.

Since 2004 Kanye West’s music has become more materialistic, misogynistic, and egoistic than thought provoking. Music and ego that’s fed his rambling acceptance speeches at the BET Honors and the VMA’s; the latter of which is where he announced his 2020 presidential bid. While I don’t take his candidacy seriously, I am concerned with whether or not he intends to endorse Ben Carson.

Presidential elections shape the future of our country four years at a time. A misguided agenda could set back gains our country has made no matter how large or modest. In an age where The Voting Rights Act has been gutted and Affirmative Acton dismantled a Ben Carson presidency could be disastrous for the minority communities still fighting for basic rights guaranteed in amendments, but yet to be delivered post-Reconstruction. A Kanye West endorsement of Ben Carson could yield a misguided vote by a young electorate listening to the foolishness of Yeezy rather than the uninterrupted sound bytes of Ben Carson’s revisionist American ramblings.

I’m all for my celebrities being politically minded and using their star power to advance the government of the United States of America, but what we don’t need is another Stacy Dash. What we don’t need is a bunch of magical negroes who have forgotten what life is like for Black people in urban cores across the country’s major metropolitan areas. Kanye West’s musical pursuits and “business acumen” aside, he is the last person I want to have the ear of a serious contender for President.

Everyone is entitled to their own political ideologies, Kanye West included. I just wish he kept his opinions to himself and allowed malleable new voters to decide for themselves who they really want to vote for, no peer pressure to be cool and follow the crowd necessary. Especially since Kanye West will perform at the DNC.

Now isn’t that a conflict of interest. Sorry Ben Carson.
