(ThyBlackMan.com) I’ve gotten relatively few responses on the piece linked below. I would have thought people would have been falling all over one another to defend our cultural heritage, but I guess many Black people are not up to fighting for their culture. We only tend to REACT when something goes desperately wrong, instead of being PROACTIVE in an attempt to ensure that life and justice works in our favor. That explains a lot about our position in society, and why our children have to go to Google (if they have access to a computer) or the public library to DIG for self-esteem. We’ve got to do better than this. If we don’t, within a few years Black people will only be a memory in Leimert Park and many other Black communities across this nation. We’ll be dispersed, filtered into, and hopefully tolerated, within the communities of others, and without one scintilla of political clout.

That’s why Los Angeles’ Leimert Park and it’s environs is much more than just a neighborhood; it’s also a cultural and political stronghold that’s worth fighting for. Without it, the Black culture and our political clout will be effectively erased in the city of Los Angeles – and that’s exactly what many forward-thinking social manipulators have in mind. You see, the demographics are changing, so the powers that be are out to dilute the impact of as many minority voters as possible. So this issue is much more important than sharing recipes online, folks. This is probably the most important issue that the Black community has ever faced in this city.

Many of the problems that the Black community is facing across this country is a direct result of our tendency to be reactive rather than proactive. Take Ferguson, Mo, for example. The Black community could have avoided the problems they had in that city by simply voting. The Black population in Ferguson is 67%, yet only 7% turned out to vote. As a result, the police department is 94% White. In the last election they corrected that problem with record Black voter turnout, but it was a little too late for Michael Brown. So let us learn from the Ferguson experience and be PROACTIVE in our response to what’s taking place in Leimert Park, because much like in the case of Michael Brown, it’s going to be much too late to try to demonstrate AFTER the fact. So NOW is the time to get up-in-arms.

If we fail to address this issue, Black people are going to be run out of the area, the park itself is going to be bulldozed, and our young people are going to be subjected to being stopped-and-frisked for just coming into the area. The social manipulators will have to take those steps just to make rich White folks feel safe enough to visit their new up-scale art galleries.

“We are facing this same issue in my neighborhood. The last historically black neighborhoods in Denver. We have gentrification meetings and how to combat it every month with less than 5 black folks there and the rest are white folks wanting to “understand.” Then when I’m walking my dog all I hear is the few black folks left complaining about the skyrocketing rent, none of their friends live in the neighborhood anymore and all the white folks. I just want to SCREAM! BUT YOU DON’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! I go to these meetings…voice my opinions…looked at like I’m militant and aggressive but I don’t care…I will not be driven out without a fight! We just had an election for city counsel members. 20,000 ballots for our district were sent out and only 5000 voted and I bet it was mostly white folks! I’m so tired…so so tired!”

So brothers and sisters, if we don’t organize and get the attention of the politicians – who were elected to protect our interest in the first place – we’re going be erased – no history, no community to call our own, and no political clout. Actually, our politicians are being shortsighted as well, because once the area is gentrified they’re going to be voted out of office as well. So again, if we don’t act NOW, they’re going to turn us into a “community” of nomads and cultural refugees. Remember where you heard it first.

If the black population in Ferguson is 67%, then why don’t more black men apply for law enforcement? Could it be because a large % of black men are criminals who aren’t capable of being police officers?

Once they get a foot hold into whatever area they pretty much take over, conducting business and all other day to day activities in Spanish, and hiring their own people. And they are quick to get involved in local politics, along with state and at federal levels. I have never seen any of these Hispanic communities vote for or support a black candidate unless it was their only option. Regardless of how bad a latin politician is they will blindly support him or her, they are rabidly ethnocentric.”
But we can get mad at people for having sense enough to do what we SHOULD be doing. There’s Walmart around the corner from my house. It put an Albertson’s out of business four blocks away, but there’s a little hespanic market that actually shares a parking lot with Walmart – the only thing that seperates them is a row of hedges – and the little Hespanic market (El Superior)is thriving.
Thus, Hespanics know the supporting one another. Black people don’t, and it’s silly to get mad at people because the have more common sense that we do- and it hurts us. The top 10% of the population in this country controls 90% of the wealth, and the bottom 90% of the country only control 10% of the wealth. So all of the working class BETTER come together. We should be out in the street trying to recruit Eskimos.

i don see latins as my enemy, but simply because someone is poor and has melanin in his skin does not make him my brother or comrade. thats the prob with our racial group because we fixate on skin color rather than commonality, values, morals and ethics.
i do see your point that yes, theoretically working class people should view each other the same, but we dont. but to view newly arriving hispanics as brothers and sisters is not only naive but misguided. again, i have lived and traveled all over the u.s. and have not just seen this social phenomena take place in one or two places across the country, but in literal regions.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this article. We react rather than be proactive. I disagree that we are done, but it will probably take more negative situations for our community to finally realize, we have to start working together in order to survive and prosper as a community.
As long as we keep listening to these so called leaders that continue to direct us into the integration trap, we will dilute ourselves out of existence.

Blacks are done. It’s back to the concentration camps for us. Most of it will be our fault. Everyone is playing the game of life in the US EXCEPT for us. We refuse to realize, accept and adopt the strategies for success.

That was a very insightful comment. I would just take issue with one part of it. We’ve got to stop blaming our problems on other poor people. We are now knee-deep in a class war, so poor and middle-class people of every race and ethnicity must come together to fight this demon who’s trying to devour us all. His most potent weapon is keeping the poor and middle class divided. And the way he keeps us divided is by sending all the jobs overseas which causes us to have to fight one another for every scrap and crumb. If we want to survive, we can’t bu into that scam.

This is the deficiency I have always seen with democrats sitting with open arms welcoming the “new americans” , I guess to some degree the black politicians have no choice to go along with it now because the demographics are changing in their own districts. So they will go along to get along all at the cost of their black base that has blindly supported them for years.
I used to live in California like you and have witnessed neighborhoods like watts, Compton, Inglewood, etc. all become Mexican, or latin. I have witnessed the same happening in other parts of the country like florida, virgina, and even in states like Alabama and Georgia.

You are right, I believe nationally we were at 15% of the population of the U.S. and now we are barely at 12%. I have predicted this for years, as we continue to make decisions that are not in our best interest as a people and community we will be come less and less as eligible black men and women will continue to seek life partners outside their own race; and I see this more and more everyday.
We need to get back to who we once were which was a spiritual, God loving, and caring people, Sundays, families, and making our communities a peaceful environment, not just for ourselves, but for others that would like to come in our communities and patronize our restaurants, stores, and other places of business. Self-segregation and disenfranchising those that have no bearing on the outcomes of our poor decisions hurts us all. Maybe I am wrong, or just a dreamer, but I don’t see anything meaningful happening with out us having to go through the fire again, whatever that is.
