(ThyBlackMan.com) We’ve all heard the debates on why the American foodstamp program should limit its benefits. We’ve heard about mothers selling their foodstamps in exchange for intoxicants, clothing, weaves, etc. We’ve heard the stories of how women in government housing sit home day in and day out having babies just to reap free food from the government.
Sadly we live in a society that preys on the poor. We all have a hand in making sure the poor gets poorer. Never would we, as black Americans, call out the IRS for that $67 million and some change that came up “missing” in 2013. Wait, remember that $80 million spent by the Department of Homeland Security to hire armed guards for the $36 food stamp cuts back in 2013? We’re not even going to mention the estimated $70+ billion spent yearly on prison idustrial complex.. Nope! We’re going to skip that and move on to the government program that spent $387k on swedish massages for a group of rabbits. Oh the greatly needed $856k spent to teach mountain lions how to walk on a treadmill. Last one, the $307k to teach sea monkeys to swim in a synchronized fashion. You’d think such spending would send the American working class in a frenzy yet it doesn’t. The working class has one thing, and one thing only in mind: Whose eating good while I’m at work?
Rarely does wealth trickle down, yet when we common folk follow the money we always follow it to the bottom. We’d rather attack the poor who must remain in a state of poverty to receive any government benefits. In a country where over 8 million citizens are unemployed, the black communities empowerment motto still remains “go to school and get a job“. In a society where 45 million people live at or below the poverty line, it’s devastating that we’re even entertaining a conversation that’s geared to take away any government benefits from the less fortunate.
How dare we protest in the streets and get on social media with the #BlackLivesMatter slogans when we aren’t willing to ensure our government takes care of underprivalaged lives who are still living. Do #BlackLivesMatter only after death? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but no one ever says “I want to live in government housing and off of foodstamps when I grow up”. It’s a trick!! We’ve been misled into thinking that the less fortunate desires to be poor and remain in a constant state of lack.
