(ThyBlackMan.com) Can you see the light? I don’t mean light as in natural light or the sun or the soft light inside your house. I mean the light. If I may be Letterman (from PBS’s “The Electric Company”) for a moment – take the ‘l’ from light, remove the ‘r’ from right, and add the l to –ight. That spells light. You get it?
Consider these words from one Glenn Beck: “Now, in spite of the things I felt at the time when we went into war, liberals said: ‘We shouldn’t get involved. We shouldn’t nation-build… there was no indication the people of Iraq had the will to be free.’ I thought that was insulting at the time. Everybody wants to be free. They said we couldn’t force freedom on people. Let me lead with my mistakes. You are right. Liberals, you were right. We shouldn’t have.” Mr. Glenn Beck – no friend of President Obama in particular or the Democratic Party in general – actually said that Wednesday on his radio program. And he wasn’t done.
Mr. Glenn Beck added with noticeable passion: “Not one more life. Not one more life. Not one more dollar, not one more airplane, not one more bullet, not one more Marine, not one more arm or leg or eye. Not one more. This must end now. Now can’t we come together on that? But if we do to the liberals what they did to us and George W. Bush and make it just about politics, we will be divided more. This cannot become about the president. It cannot become about the Democrats. This has to become about the principles because in the principles we all agree. Enough is
enough. Bring them home. Period.”
Mr. Glenn Beck, I could not agree with you more on this particular point if I tried.
Can you see the light?
A poll released early last week by Public Policy Polling (PPP) asked respondents a single question: “In order to deal with the crisis in Iraq, do you support or oppose sending combat troops to Iraq?” Of the 790 people who were asked this question, 74% of them opposed sending American combat troops to Iraq; with 16% supporting the idea. When this same poll was commissioned and used by Americans United for Change – a political group opposed to the re-deployment of troops back to Iraq – the responses to the aforementioned question were telling. 57% of Republicans were against sending combat troops to Iraq. 57% of Americans can’t agree that the USA’s Men’s soccer team won its first World Cup match against Ghana last weekend (which it did by the score of 2-1). Change is coming.
Can you see the light?
The Grand Old Party – which has advocated using America’s armed forces to assert and reinforce our nation’s superpower status for several decades – is seeing an increase in its Congressmen and Senators coming forward to simply say no to sending our troops back to Iraq. More Republicans are breaking ranks with the party’s pro-military industrial complex infatuation; apparently unafraid of the inevitable commentary which will come their way for doing so. They know they’ll be called weak, Obama lovers, RINOs (Republicans in name only), liberal appeasers, and the like. They don’t care. It’s worth it to them. These Republican officeholders see the light.
President Obama has said repeatedly that there are issues all Americans should be able to agree on regardless of political affiliation. We should have never been in Iraq in the first place. Call it war-weariness or call it common sense. The American people have had enough.
Did you see what happened to former Vice President Dick Cheney during his interview with Megan Kelly on Fox News Channel last week? I did. She verbally pummeled him: “Time and time again, history has proven that you got it wrong as well in Iraq, sir. You said there were no doubts Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. You said we would greeted as liberators. You said that after our intervention, extremists would have to, quote, ‘rethink their strategy of Jihad.’ You said the Iraq insurgency was in the last throes back in 2005. Now with almost a trillion dollars spent there with 4,500 American lives lost there, what do you say to those who say, you were so wrong about so much at the expense of so many?” Ms. Kelly ate Mr. Cheney’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, and in-between snacks. I actually felt sorry for the man. Dare I say that Megan Kelly – like Glenn Beck – now sees the light? Could it be?
Folks, it’s time for nation-building to occur right here in the good old U.S. of A.
When the left and the right come together on one accord, there’s virtually nothing we cannot accomplish as a nation. Together. Left + right = light.
