(ThyBlackMan.com) Janet Jackson next to Michael is probably the best known of the Jackson clan. She is an American actress, singer and entertainer known for the CD and Tour for her album Rhythm Nation.
But sadly she is most well-known for something that happened a decade ago. If anyone mentions the words “Super Bowl halftime”, anyone over the age of 20 remembers Janet Jackson’s show with Justin Timberlake where Justin was to tear off Janet Jackson’s bustier off, to reveal a pasty but instead revealed her nipple (shock) on national TV.
This so called scandal developed into a debate about indecency but it does not take away from Janet Jackson’s achievements as an entertainer. CBS was fined almost one-million dollars for an incident that lasted not more than 2 seconds if that much. But many will say that this was the moment she came out of Michael and her brothers’ shadows.
With this debate going Janet Jackson still found her own place in the world of music outside of her family with albums and tours for Control, Rhythm Nation and the Velvet Rope.
In 2012 Janet Jackson turned attention towards home life with her marriage to Qatari businessman by the name of Wissm Al Manan.
Janet Jackson is the youngest child of this family and it is believed she was closest with Michael. She started her career with the Jacksons variety television series called – The Jacksons. She then went on to appear in other TV shows throughout the 1970s and early 1980s including Fame and Good Times. With her recordings and albums Janet was recognized for her records, choreography, radio airplay and MTV, but most of all she was also pointed to as a role model for her socially conscious lyrics. She established herself as an entertainer and singer in her own right.
In her videos and live performances, Janet Jackson reveals an athletic, crisp dance technique much like Michael she believed singing was not the point. Her infectious hooks, slamming beats and productions that were immaculate were perfect and matched her social and sexual independence.
Her private life wasn’t as smooth as her career. Fans were more than surprised when in 2000, Janet Jackson’s creative and romantic partner Elizonda, filed for divorce. This man was seen as a stable presence in her life, although it had not been publically know that the couple was even married.
This was about the time that Jackson returned to the eyes of the public with the halftime performance where the “wardrobe malfunction” occurred seen by most of the world. This display is considered the most-searched event in the history of the Internet and its effect had a reach that went far. Jackson declined to apologize to the network without calling the incident a malfunction of her wardrobe. Because of this she was denied a performance appearance at the 2004 Grammy Awards. ABC even stopped plans for Jackson to star in a television movie on the life of Lena Horn when Horn expressed her displeasure with the incident.
