(ThyBlackMan.com) Usher vs. Chris Brown. Is there any comparison? Some people feel that there is none with Usher winning hands down. Others believe that Chris Brown knocks Usher out the box.
Usher was born, Usher Terry Raymond IV born on October 14, 1978. Usher Raymond is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. Since his debut album in 1994 self-entitled Usher, Usher Raymond has made a number of award winning recordings.
Usher Raymond has reached the US Billboard Hot 100, European, Australian, World, US and World R&B charts, World Adult, Norwegian, Swiss, and the UK charts in 2004 and he also reached number 2 in Canada. Usher won a Grammy Award for “Best Male R&B Vocal” in the Grammy Awards of 2001 for U Remind Me off his 8701 album.
Chris Brown who was born on May 5th, 1989 as Christopher Maurice Brown is also a singer, songwriter, dancer and actor. Chris Brown’s recording debut was in 2005 with his self-titled album Chris Brown at the age of 16. The album’s hit single Run It! topped the Billboard Hot 100. The album sold over two million copies in the United States and was certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
As you can see there are a number of similarities that can be made between Chris Brown and Usher. Both hit stardom at a very young age before even graduating from high school. Usher and Chris Brown have been very successful in all the endeavors they have pursued. Even with such close parallelisms some feel that the two can’t be compared or even filed in the same ranking.
Again both are excellent singers, dancers and overall performers. But personally I believe that their styles are different. Chris Brown is energetic and Usher seems to be more laid back as he has matured. As one person stated both are amazing and there is not much that Usher or Chris Brown can’t do because of their vast dancing skills. However, it is evident to me that their choreographers have different styles.
Usher is smooth in a grown and sexy kind of way. He tends to attract more mature listeners. It seems that his demographics are the thirty five and over crowd. Usher’s signature style and songs tend to have a more old school flavor. His dance moves seem to be more laid back and fluid that that of Chris Brown’s. While on the other hand Chris Brown seems to pick up a younger audience, with his moves appearing to be a bit more youthful.
However, after having this topic of conversation with my niece she totally disagreed of course, saying that Usher was cute for an old gut, but that Chris was fine and way better than Usher any day.
Now I will admit that Chris Brown is cute in his own way, but Usher has that sex appeal and smooth like butter flava that a woman in her 40s can truly appreciate. Even Usher’s music is more appealing to my ears.
Since Chris Brown is in his early twenties, there’s no surprise his audience would be different than Ushers. There is over a ten year difference. So I can see why Chris Brown would have the teeny boppers running in behind him and the older, refined women taking in Usher’s melodic tones. When I see Usher I see a young man with tons of sex appeal. When I look at Chris Brown I see my son or nephew. That’s just my take on it.
I wonder 30 and 40 years from now which one will be ranked amongst the greats such as Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind and Fire. Some will say there is no comparison because they are both great performers. Others will argue that one is none greater than the other.
Both are international performers and very talented young men. I cannot give credit to one and fail to give to the other. Making a comparison may be a difficult. Even though I prefer Usher, in the end the choice of who is best will depend on the individual.

With R. Kelly out of the picture for several years, both Chris Brown and Usher can now lay claim to the title of King of R&B. It has been a pleasure to witness the growth and evolution of both artists. While choosing between them is challenging, there is no denying that Chris Brown stands out as the best R&B dancer of all time. His movements are nothing short of spectacular. Usher, on the other hand, occupies a unique echelon, and his successful residency in Las Vegas for over a year is a testament to his enduring appeal and talent.
It brings a smile to my face to see both Chris Brown and Usher now regarded as legends. It is remarkable to consider the achievements that can unfold over a decade. Recently, the BET Awards honored the illustrious Usher Raymond, recognizing his significant contributions to music. Chris Brown, too, remains at the pinnacle of the industry. I hope these two talented artists continue to produce outstanding music and inspire future generations.
actually usher is the best …… i am a fan of cb after when i had the truth it was gruesome…. he said he learnt his dancing skills from usher and mj.just to cut the story short the best musics were produced around 2010. i think that moment most teens were in school missing a lot of entertainment by usher.usher amazingly ruled the world of rnb with his dancing steps.
USHER is the one & only.
Oh. ..and by the way..when the two of them collaborate. ..there is nothing better! Just listen to their song “Sometimes “It’s fantastic and shows what great voices they both have! !But Chris. ..you’re still my main baby. .lol! I listen to you ALL the time! !
Both Usher and Chris Brown are great artists but I have to admit that as a 65 year old white woman. ..I know I’m not the norm. …..but I Love Chris Brown! And he is definitely better looking
Let’s get this clear….the only aspects Chris Brown probably goes above Usher is within the “creativity” of his dancing. He seems to have more creativity as a freestyler and has introduced aerobics into dance.
Usher Raymond IV is the pioneer of entertainment in the modern era, Chris Brown, Neyo, Jason Derulo whatever, Usher’s style of putting entertainment into a modern swag was used as a platform without a doubt.
Chris Brown would often say frequently in his interviews back in 2005, that the standard of entertaining he targets is MJ, but also said Usher was partly an influence as he was 7 when he hit topped charts. He impressed his mom with a vocal performance of “My Way”. He said he doesn’t want to be known as the “next Usher” and so adopted a more crunk-syle type of dance to distinguish himself.
Chris Brown is not as complete of an entertainer as Usher. He prioritizes dance. Vocals is the main element and dance is the decoration. He wasn’t even singing until 11, but enjoyed dancing prior to that. Chris lacks the ability to sing and dance at the same time and present both on stage. A lot of lip syncing, covered with front flip stunts. Musically, very few of his music has depth, majority of which seem repetitive and are hard to remember. Commercially his first two albums were at 2M, incomparison to Usher’s first smashes at 6M and 7M.
Usher is the most all-rounded and most successful entertainer since Michael Jackson, with a strong R&B soul coupled with excellent dancing and versatile music. Dance wise, he was one of the first to introduce the street dancing into the mainstream, which would later further be developed and expanded in the mid 2000s as movies like “U Got served” would be released. That’s where Chris comes in, making Usher seem outdated.
Aside from the fact Usher outperforms him when it comes to presenting both vocals and movement on stage, Chris Brown’s music catalogue is Usher’s catalogue broken into mediocre pieces. With or without the Rihanna incident, I wouldn’t predict him to progress that much because his music always lacked basic maturity. Would “Loyal” had appealed world wide with or without the incident? Not really. Most of his music benefits from the poor quality of R&B around today. His biggest albums “Chris Brown” and “Exclusive” mainly achieved only domestic success in the U.S, and not much impact WW. He seemed as more of a successful Omarion (who can also dance better than Usher). Usher doing back flips and stunts, enabled Omarion and Chris Brown to come in elevating that style further (Breezy doing front flips) – but completely lacking in other areas. They often dance within themselves in a limited space, rather in an organised audience-presentable manner. Breeyz’s choreography still resembles locker room dance battles. Resembling a thug, rather than an entertainer, using auto-tune instead of back-up vocalists. Bruno Mars is doing a better job of keeping classic showmanship alive.
To summarise, Usher is overall better. 9 Billboard #1’s, 13 R&b #1’s (tied with MJ) and 8 Grammys. The fact that he scored the same on both charts as Chris Brown counting specifically from when he first arrived in 2005 (after Confessions) tells us how he still has relevance. Replicated, duplicated but he still evolved. The best performer as the quality of being able to sing and dance together must be emphasised. Something that eludes Chris Brown and others like Jason Derulo who excel at skill, rather than talent.
Usher is best entertainer performance-wise, commercial wise and music wise. Chris Brown has to strengthen his other areas other than crunk dancing to make a statement.
R u kidding me??,Usher and Chris?,no way Chris is far better dan Usher so plz stop dis nonsense,as far as am concerned Chris is d most flexible dancer have ever seen and den talk of his stunts and improvising movements and his voice. Chris can dance anything
I prefer Chris Brown as far as dancing. Chris Brown & Usher’s music can’t really be compared. I think Usher will be remembered more as an R&B artist while Chris will be remembered as an Entertainer because he doesn’t really market himself as strictly R&B act. Usher has covered all genres but this happened much later in his career. He’s been in the game since like ’94 but he always marketed himself as an R&B artist. I feel like they don’t really belong in the same category as musical artists and the only comparisons between them is dancing. Usher’s most critically acclaim album is ‘Confessions’ and it was an R&B album. Among R&B lovers, Usher handsdown will be favored.
Apples and oranges. Each is awesome in his own right.
I disagree with Rob (no offense any1) and everyone who says Chris Brown is more successful. So what if he has 1 billion views on youtube. Usher has over 100 awards, (133 awards i think), earned special honor awards by L.A Reid, Babyface, James Brown, Michael Jackson, etc. He did so many musical tributes (I.e Stevie Wonder) because all the music critics and celebs know how terrific he truly is. Made it to the hall of fame several times. He made superstars, influenced many new upcoming artists, He had the greatest tour last decade with “Confessions” for any R&B act, he Was hot 100 artist of last decade, Male R&B artist of last decade, Top R&B album, Most successful artist of last decade, he had the #1 song of last decade by a Male singer with Yeah. Yeah was literally #1 on almost all charts everywhere dominating for 15 weeks (in U.S). Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Ne-yo and Not even Jason Derulo will never have a perfect era our out peak Usher in their prime. They all have passed their peaks. Critically, commercially or digitally with Confessions. Had youtube existed in 2004 or before, then Usher would have had more than a billion views, etc and Usher’s confessions would have sold more than 15 million in U.s and possibly 30 million ww! if it were released before 2004. I’m sure with streaming they will add all of Usher’s youtube views with all of his hit songs from the past too.
Anyway Chris is talented, but Usher has worked far harder and accomplished way more. No offense Chris Brown fans. Usher will always be the man!
for usher and Chris brown there is no comparison because usher is far way better Chris brown
The both of them dance well, but to me usher is the best dancer, cause his my mentor.
I love both Usher and Chris Brown and think they’re both very talented handsome men. However, as a dancer myself, as far as dancing goes, Chris has got it. Don’t get me wrong, I think Usher is an amazing dancer but Chris is a beast when it comes to dancing. Usher can pop and glide which is very smooth and sexy, but Chris can do that and a lot more. He can dance in many different styles, whereas Usher is known to glide and pop. I can’t lie I love it when Usher dances because it’s extremely sexy but if you pay attention to detail and compare their every single performance Chris has way more energy and can basically glide, pop, do flips on stage and much more. However, when it comes to vocals I think Usher is better. His voice is smooth which I love in my opinion. Chris’ voice is great as well but he has to stop smoking because it is ruining his voice. His vocals were developing really well but ever since he started smoking I’ve been quite disappointed since his real singing abilities aren’t shown.
All in all, I say Chris Brown is a better dancer and performer whereas Usher is a better singer.
Anyone who compares Usher with chris Brown maybe born yesterday n doesn’t no who Raymond is from my Way with tyrise, U remind me, Confession, I can’t wait. Please don’t compare Usher Raymond is d best in everything. I had dislocation in Secondary schl while Rehearsing Usher steps(Big Boss).
4 get Usher Is best all the time.
Chris all the way the best tin rnb right now
usher all the way, his dancing prowess is more appealing to the soulful eyes, though chris brown is energetic for his age…so was usher in same age then. Usher has been doing it, and still pleasing his fans more at his age, chris brown is just a boy to usher in dancing, and singing also. We have seen usher’s concerts, please people tell me whose concert rock best, their live perfomances should also count. We all would concur that usher sing way better than chris brown, that is flawless in a pellucid way. Usher for life, he is next after Michael Jackson
i’ve no idea why there’s comparison between them cuz I dont think Chris can be placed the same rank as Usher. yep, I admit Chris can dance, but Usher’s style is more appealing and fluid. As to vocal ability, I dont think Chris is a talented singer. In short, Chris just can dance but cannot sing even though he can write some songs
Usher z best 4 who people who lyk cb r people who follower music ryt now. The way cb dance av alredy dance in usher music so usher z best of best ryt now
Usher.. he’s a true performer.. Chris Brown, lip singer. If you like Chris, then you also like Spears.. they should do a lip sing performance. The show can be called Chris Spears, or Britney Brown lol
Chris dances way better dan usher lyk he can do diff styles nd nt slide nd glide lyk ush. Wit years chris voice is gonna b great
usher the best one for dancing
usher comes first for dancing bse he creats his own move but chris wos taught by athers so chris for sing bse has nice voise
Chris brown is a good singer nd dancer but Usher sings and dance better, besides usher is more handsome.
People for me is forever the KING USHER, look at C. Brown most of his moves we already saw it with Usher… Usher also have a better voice than the young…. For me Usher… Team Usher Forever
I prefer usher to chris brown although both are great performers and credit supposed to be given to both but to me i think usher should be credited most, talking about voice even their dancing skills are very different and not alike in any form and i think that of usher is most likely preferable.i love both raymond usher and maurice brown. But salute to the king usher.
As far as hotness Chrisbrown got it. Usher Can hit them high notes and thats nice and everything but idk if i like him more than Chrisbrown. I honestly think ChrisBrown can dance really good. i Agree with the person who said Usher should be compared to RKelly.Team Breezy lol. By the way Im 13
soy de Bolivia y soy fan de chirs brown es mejor q usher solo q recien empiesa a brillar tiene mejor voz mas trucos de baile ojala q algun dia venga por aca 🙂
whats the point usher clearly rule over chris
I have to say Chris because he’s so different and unlike Usher he steps out of his comfort zone, the only thing holding him back is his personal life and thats not fair, but my mom who is way older than Usher LOVES chris just like I do but at the end of the day when Chris first came out he always stated that Usher was one of his biggest influence’s along with M.J.(R.I.P.)…so its just not fair to compare the two even though Chris is younger and has accomplished the same thing maybe more as Usher….I give them both credit but I give Chris more…
I must say Usher. he just has the hits,#1’s, sold out concerts to prove that he holds the crown to R&B. Everytime he comes back with the a hit, its very relevant. I cant remember when Chris had a U.S. #1. Right now on the R&B charts, Usher’s Climax is still rising with incredible airplay gains. Chris’ Strip song is on the verge of falling now. Thats would be the proof right there
I say Usher is the better singer and Chris brown is the better dancer. but they just a Michael Jackson wanna be (If You Ask Me) by the way the KING OF POP was WAY! better R.I.P M.J
There is no comparison because Usher is clearly way better than CB. I find it odd that you would put Usher’s audience as 34 and up???? I would put it more like 25 and up. But, that’s just me.
Usher has one of the top albums sold in the 2000s and an album that is considered classic – “Confessions”. CB…um…not so much. Usher is a better singer by far. Usher recently sang a lil bit of “Clilmax at a radio station and put that against any recent whole performance of CB and you will see. Dancing is still Usher. I think CB can dance, but the moves he does do is average and can be found a Venice Beach. Usher’s dance moves are really creative and have been for years. You see Usher has lasted which makes him better. CB is more known for his non-musical mess and quitting twitter on a monthly basis. Usher did the dance stuff and CB copied with watered down, sound a likes. I can go on and on..really. CB is more like Omarion.
I appreciate both artist. kinda out with the old and in with the new. example bey and rihanna. usher still makes great music, but chris is more a appealing right now. lol!
Chirs brown all the way bitcheesssss! chris nock usher out the box downtown to china and then up ur asss, cuz chris is THE BEST,<3333! TEAM BREEZY FOR EVERRRRRR!!
Chris Brown is a musical genius…..Usher is not. I’m a 43 year old man and Chris Brown’s creativity has enthralled me since the first album. I’ve seen him live several times in arena’s and small clubs and one simply cannot take your eyes off of him. Usher is a great dancer, but Chris Brown does what Michael Jackson used to do…….he finds new moves within the choreography every single night. Chris Brown has led or shared vocals on over 800 songs in a mere seven years and people forget he was named Billboard’s Artist of the Year TWICE before the age of 19. Chris Brown is a video director, song writer, beat creater, producer, executive producer, rapper, singer, visual artist, actor, and soon to be fashion designer. He has a lifestyle website (MechanicalDummy.com) that showcases art, music, and fashion. Chris Brown has been suffering the indignity of a modern day media lynching since he tragically committed domestic violence against Rihanna, an act that happens in over 33% of intimate relationships in America. From the media coverage, one would think the vilification of Chris Brown in the media made him the only one to ever commit domestic violence. How else to explain that Eminem (for example) was also arrested and charged with domestic violence and was easily welcomed back to music and awards community? Chris Brown has clawed his way back to popularity through his strong work ethic, creativity, and drive. He is the most prolific musical artist of his generation, and (speaking as a huge Michael Jackson fan) I believe Chris Brown is the Michael Jackson of his generation in terms of talent and creativity. His entire song catalogue has literally hundreds of amazing songs. I’ve been in grocery stores and overheard 50 year old white women talking about how they love Chris Brown’s music. Chris has had over 1 billion views on Vevo. Usher is a great artist, but Chris Brown is so far ahead of where Usher was all ready at this age it is mindblowing.
Chris Brown has better creativity than Usher. CB can act/direct/produce/draw/compose/sing/dance/write/ and so on. so hands down Chris way better then usher lets not forget CB is 22 years old more to come too
Everyone has made excellent comments and very valid points.
As I stated in the very last paragraph. “Both are international performers and very talented young men. I cannot give credit to one and fail to give to the other. Making a comparison may be a difficult. Even though I prefer Usher, in the end the choice of who is best will depend on the individual.”
That’s why I love this forum everyone has there own opinion and it is just that simply an opinion.
I am over 30 and I am a fan of Chris more that i am of Usher these days. So please get your statistics right. How can an Usher stan be pretending to be un-bias about this comparison with Brown and Raymond?
Breezy is the WORLD BEST DANCER RIGHT NOW! usher don’t come close to his shadow right now when it comes to dance moves. And Usher knows his place and he can never attempt to compete or contest with him on that front.
its not all about sales or awards you know, its who and what they both stand for in music. CHRIS LEADS THIS NEW GENERATION AND USHER HAS OLDER FANS & yes his fan base are young as you’d expect since Chris is only 22 years old himself.
what will Chris do with Usher comparison when people are already comparing him to the King of Pop- -Michael Jackson
Its just too obvious right from the beginning of this article that the writer favored Usher more…..
Chris Brown is not only a singer, actor and dancer, he is a writer, producer, director, Emcee, artist (grafitti artist).
Yeah, Usher’s success was mostly pre-digital age b4 this level of piracy and need i remind you that Chris Brown is public enemy 1#
how can u even do a fair comparison especially if Chris is just be 6 years into the game with 3 out of it feminist, racist and media enemy 1#
His success is even more highly valued considering his circumstances.
NO OFFENCE TO USHER, BUT HE’D HAVE TO BATTLE THE KING OF RNB WITH R-KELLY!
As for Chris, he is on a different lane, He does RnB, Pop and Hiphop effortlessly but he is the WORLD BEST DANCER RIGHT NOW! usher don’t come close to his shadow right now.
I know you like Usher, and we all know Usher can sing (really well) perhaps even better than Chris Brown but, Chris makes up for it with his dance moves which is clearly superior to Usher’s in every way. plus he is taller than Usher lol
Love them both and i would compare them honestly But if I did I would choose Chris.
Hes it for me,he does what feels good and comfortable for him no matter what anyone else is doing.Usher these last few years seems to be following treads rather then setting them.Still talented tho
“they both bring something new to the table”
I dunno about Usher, but there’s something that Chris Brown DEFINITELY brings to the table. A hot steaming plate of domestic abuse.
I will definately say USHER! Im only two years older than Chris and Im seven years younger than Usher. His music takes me in much more than Chris’. You’re right Chris will bring in the younger crowd, but yet I have been listening to usher since the late 90’s when he first started sliding on his feet. The best thing Ive ever seen since Michael Jackson(R.I.P). UR’s vocals are laid back and he can belt out the big notes…and as for the song “Climax” goes, he knows how to hit the falsetto notes well also. Usher…hands down. King of R&B!!
There is no comparison because they are both 2 different artists in different lanes. Love em both for different reasons, they both bring something new to the table.
