(ThyBlackMan.com) After a week that saw rumors explode of a possible alliance between Republican presidential candidates Ron Paul and Mitt Romney, rival candidate Rick Santorum accused Mr. Paul of being Mr. Romney’s “wing man” on Saturday.
“If ( Ron Paul is) really trying to transform Washington, then why is he being the wing man for Mitt Romney?” said Mr. Santorum, The Detroit News reports.
Mr. Santorum’s made the “wing man” comment during a campaign appearance at a rally for Tea Party Republicans in St. Claire Shores, Michigan on Saturday.
The former U.S. senator’s comments are similar to the thoughts of several political pundits who raised questions of a possible alliance between Ron Paul and Mr. Romney earlier this week.
Following the nationally televised debate in Arizona on Wednesday, conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh, NBC News political director Chuck Todd, and even Romney surrogate Tim Pawlenty gave their opinions on a possible agreement between Ron Paul and Mr. Romney not to attack each other in ads, debates, and interviews along the campaign trail.
During the debate in Arizona, both Ron Paul and Mr. Romney took shots at Mr. Santorum’s congressional record of voting for earmarks.
What further sparked the speculation though, was that the Texas congressman has engaged in this type of non-Romney bashing etiquette in previous debates.
In early December, when former House speaker Newt Gingrich surged in popularity and emerged as the favorite to win the Iowa caucuses, GOP Ron Paul increased his attacks against him in debates and interviews regarding his past consulting relationship with failed mortgage giant Freddie Mac.
Following the seemingly double team attack of Mr. Gingrich by Ron Paul and Mr. Romney leading up to Iowa, the former House speaker plummeted in polls and finished fourth behind Ron Paul in the Iowa caucuses.
Now, with Mr. Santorum still riding momentum from his three victories in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado two weeks ago, it seems as if he is getting the same kind of double team attack from Ron Paul and Mr. Romney.
“He’s not campaigning in Michigan, yet he’s running ads against me,” said Mr. Santorum on Saturday.
The former Pennsylvania senator also told the crowd of Tea Party Republicans in St. Claire Shores that he felt like “messages were being slipped behind my chair” at the CNN moderated debate this week.
While it is true that Ron Paul recently released an ad attacking Mr. Santorum, he actually will be making several campaign stops in Michigan this weekend. He’s scheduled to make stops at Central Michigan University on Saturday, and Michigan State University on Monday, with several appearances throughout the state in between the two college events.
Further increasing the speculation of a deal between Mr. Romney and Ron Paul this week was the Texas congressman’s son, Kentucky senator Rand Paul. After a speech in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday, reporters asked the Kentucky Republican if he would hypothetically accept a vice presidential running mate offer from Mr. Romney in 2012.
“I don’t know if I can answer that question, but I can say it would be an honor to be considered,” said the younger Paul, WFPL News reports.
Rep. Ron Paul still has not achieved a primary or caucus victory thus far in the primary race, which has caused political pundits to question whether he has a non-attack pledge with the Romney camp in an effort to secure a cabinet position for himself or his son under a possible Romney presidency.
On Friday, Mr. Pawlenty sought to quell those rumors in an apperance on MSNBC by telling viewers that a candidate of Ron Paul’s character would never agree to such an alliance.
“Think about Ron Paul cutting a deal as an insider to get some political favors,” said Mr. Pawlenty. “Probably the last person to ‘cut a back room deal’ in American politics would be Ron Paul.”

I always found it odd that Ron Paul never went after Romney, who is, after all, the biggest flip-flopper of all time. Does he have a deal with Mitt, does he agree with him, or is he just attacking the biggest “not Romney” candidate?
POLL: Why hasn’t Ron Paul attacked Romney a single time in 20 debates?
Vote: http://www.wepolls.com/p/7933222
A 30 yr congressional run bases on principles, honesty, integrity, consistency and INCORRUPTIBILITY would end up in what…a back room wheeling-and-dealing by Ron Paul to Willard Romney?!
Preposterous.
Ron Paul simply cannot be bought. Never.
As an example, he has no corporatist “Goldman Sachs” type lobbyists “buying” him throughout his congressional career (and now, his presidential run). His presidential campaign millions is wholly funded by small donations from US…the everyday American.
Ron Paul panders to no one.
And this “mass consumption”, deceptive hype Mainstream Media news bit of an “alliance” can’t be bought by me, neither.
There is no alliance!!! Ron is going at Santorum because he’s a warmongering idiot and with his record he’s an easy target….besides no dog can chase two rabbits he has to choose his targets and he doesn’t have unlimited funds so he has to see where he can get the most bang for the buck on the attack.
Ron Paul doesn’t do back-room deals.
Don;t buy into the hype that civility is collusion.
Why don’t you just go straight to the man and get his answer???
Ron Paul answers “Absolutely not!” in today’s interview on the CNBC Kudlow Report! [see link below]
Shady, insidious backroom deals is NOT the way Ron Paul rolls! However, it IS the way the media rolls and Santorum is the whiny baby that started the rumor.

Ron would never work with Mitt. He stands for everything Ron Paul is against.
Plus i would like to know why all the quotes are from people other than paul?
Also, it isn’t true Paul isn’t running in Michigan. He needs a 15% vote threshold to get delegates there, he may not WIN but he should get the threshold, but the media is pretending he isn’t there. He had 2000 people turn out for him tonight, though, much better crowd than either Romney or Santorum get: http://www.cm-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/AN_ronpaul-560×373.jpg
Love the comment that “Ricky says” made about Paul needing Romney’s delegates.
I liked the comment on Thy Blackman yesterday smashing the idea that Ron Paul is a Romney wingman.
Everyone keeps looking at this from the wrong angle-why would Ron Paul attack Mitt Romney when he might need Mitt Romney’s delegates in August to secure his nomination as the Republican presidential candidate?
Also, why should Ron Paul’s campaign waste money attacking Romney when the other two are focusing all of their money on beating him? Paul is just hanging back and watching the others duke it out, and lands a few good punches of his own when need be.
Once again this whole thing about Ron Paul as the wing man is getting about as old as the birth control/satan issue is. Do you really think Ron Paul is that dumb to think that Mittens is going to get elected? Really anyone with half a brain and access can watch exactly what is going to happen if Mittens is elected just search McCain 08. YOu don’t even need a crystal ball. So why would he sign himself or his son up for a losing postion?
They aren’t fishing from the same pond of supporters. Simple. Romney is moderate whose supporters vote mainly by ticket, they vote for Romney because he is the establish candidate and because he “looks” presidential. Santorum, Gingrich and Paul are conservatives sharing a 3 way pie of supporters. All it was a was a strategy a mutally beneficial action that set out to accomplish it’s mission. Only Santorum threw himself off the cliff not Romney and Paul.
Santorum is getting desperate. The candidate that can tap into the independent and democratic vote will be the one that has the best chance to be victorious over Obama. The Republican vote will not be enough to beat Obama. Santorum’s brand of politics does not makes him accessible to a broad range of the vote. Finally, the time has come where many (if not all) of Ron Paul’s stances have logically become the default stances of many people across the political divide. Now, people have to vote logically according to their own heart and brain, and not according to any influence of the mainstream propagandist media. This is an important time for America.
That would be like Jesus working with Satan, and that rumor has already been squashed in Mainstream media by Ron Paul himself and his son Rand Paul, educate yourself brother. Ron Paul is what America needs I use to believe it was Obama but he showed that he lied like a dog just listen to any one of his 2008 speeches and take notice that he didn’t do none of his promises NONE!
Ron Pauls message of liberty and constitutional government are what we need in this country. By being fiscally conservative yet socially giving I think is a good message. The extreme left of Obama or the extreme right of Santorum are losing ideas. Obama must not win.
Last week Santorum said he thinks government should do everything for people. This week Santorum said government is doing too much. He’s done.
Lets face it Romney doesn’t even have a message. If he does its lost on me cause he changes and spins so much. Newt, while a good debater is damaged goods not to mention another big government type. So Go Ron Paul!!!!
People who vote for Romney are not going to vote for Paul. They KNOW Romney is an establishment mushy middle guy. They apparently like that. Ron Paul is nothing like that. Santorum and Gingrich and all the other ‘anti-Romney’s’ said they were conservative and conservatives who don’t do much homework think Santorum (whip to get Bush’d policies through the Senate, when he was there, who took more lobbyist money of anyone else in congress his last year there) is conservative. Paul wants those votes, so he goes after the faux conservatives who mouth his own views but don’t have his record. Today in Oklahoma he was asked if he could see himself pulling out of the primary at any point and endorsing Romney and Paul said ‘no, never’. He doesn’t lie. You can’t, by the way, say that truthfully about the others.
In reality it’s currently a tight race between Romney and Paul. If anything, Romney is being nice to Paul because there is a real chance he may lose to Paul, and wants to remain in politics. Gingrich and Santorum are simply guaranteeing that they never get elected for anything ever again.
What I think is an interesting note that never makes the news is the motivation of anyone to ever wanting to become President.
I don’t think anyone other than Ron Paul is going into this only wanting to serve his country the best he can. I think the rest, including the President only want the power. I think that distinguishes Dr Paul from everyone else as far as voters are concerned because they are tired of back room shady dealings and a bought government.
I think the people who are awake respect a civil servant who refuses the government pension and perpetual health care and is willing to do the job of President for $40,000 a year.
Above all, I wish people would quit looking for the GQ Man of the Year, discriminating on age, and respect him for what he is, ethical.
Why is it a good thing for Ron Paul to get it down to a 2 man race?
Two words BROKERED CONVENTION What are the chances of a brokered convention if it becomes a 2 man race?
Besides, like it or not, Ron does have a ceiling, hopefully temporary but a ceiling. Until he busts that ceiling he is better off in a 4 man race. Oh sure it is easier for the mainstrean to ignore him but they didnt have a problem ignoring him when it was Ron Paul vs John “Bomb Iran” McCain in a 2 man race!
The oldest strategy in the history of conflict. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Any votes lost by Romney are as likely to go to Santorum or Gingrich as they are to go to Ron Paul. Romney has a big war chest and Ron Paul has his ‘money bombs’ to rake the cash in. The weakest financial links are Gingrich who is already in debt, and Santorum whos’ funds rely entirely on results. Attacking Romney would be fatal to any remote possibility that Ron Paul has of winning.
Ideally he needs Santorum and Gingrich to drop out and take the ‘not-Romney’ mantle. The Maine results are a good cue as to what a Romney/Ron Paul face off would look like. Barely 100 or so votes between the two.
I think these stories are actually a good thing. The more flagrant the lies the media spins the more people see through it. The more people that question the system the more support Ron Paul gets. Santorum did himself more harm than good and has almost universally been described as a ‘whiner’. Wonder if there’ll be comments on his ‘alliance’ with Gingrich.
Santorum is an unabashed liar. Paul’s ads have been about revealing the truth about his opponents.
The talks of an “alliance” between Paul and Romney are nonsense. How many times has Paul been asked if he would support any of the other three if one of them got the nomination, and replied that they are “all the same”. Neither one of the other three make a cut in the deficit, it’s just a battle between who spends more than the other one. Romney spends the least amount of money, but it’s only Paul who actually cuts into the deficit.
Obama, of course, outspends them all with his budget plan.
Ron Paul is just trying to knock out Gingrich and Santorum so he can get it down to a two man race between him and Romney. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are like night and day. There is no alliance!
