(ThyBlackMan.comThe greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude of mind, writes the father of American psychology William James. James nailed it. Look at anything you’ve been successful at versus what you failed in and, incontrovertibly, it was your attitude which shaped the outcome.

Regardless of unlucky breaks, mismanagement of resources or someone giving up on you, the best predictor of positive outcomes is the attitude behind them. Use these four attitudes of mind to change your life.

Expect Something or You’ll Get Nothing

Someone has well-said that if you have advanced no plan for success, you should expect not compensation of reward. How many people do you know who live by the rubric of low expectation? These types of people get up with nothing and go to bed with nothing; they have already fulfilled their life mission and now merely subsist on the loop of existential living – going to work, raising children and then they die!

You must expect something from life or you will receive nothing. It’s called purpose, and the Creator made sure to include an abundant supply of it upon our being fashioned in her image. What do you expect? Let’s arrive to that answer by inductive reasoning: desire good health not dis-ease; desire abundance as opposed to lack; revel in strength and not your weakness.

Compel Room for Your Idea

What’s happened to most people is not the loss of loved ones, not a bad break that resulted in dire straits, not doors being closed in one’s face; rather, what has happened to most people is the wilting away of ideas – ideas that could have made them millionaires. I am not a millionaire yet – but I have a million ideas!

At some point, my ideas will create room for my greatness. The key is to compel room for your idea. What’s your idea? Put the full weight of your energy behind it!

Radiate Confidence

Ever been in the company of a person who walks around literally dragging their feet, shoes sliding across the floor as they walk throughout the day? A recent report indicates that people who walk in a slothful shuffle – those who ‘drag their feet’ through life – are usually people who lack a key and crucial component to success: CONFIDENCE! Confidence is that feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities; it is that feeling that you are convinced that you’ve got the stuff to make things happen!

To radiate such confidence is to be in intimate touch with the Divine within you. It is a conviction that God don’t make no junk!

You must be confident, even when circumstances offer no reason for it!

Anticipate Success by One’s Mental Attitude

We can keep gauging our success by material evidence only – the amount of money in our accounts, the type of car we drive or the home we live in. Actually, those are the symptoms of success. Our mental attitude is the source of our success. Before we can realize the level of success we want, we must first see it in our mind’s eye. In other words, we must condition ourselves mentally for success to happen.

Why do most people not ever ‘see’ themselves as successful? Mainly because they have talked themselves out of success with a ‘failure narrative’ that highlights all of the reasons they cannot live the life of their dreams. This narrative is made up of excuses such as ‘I’m too old’, ‘I am broke’, ‘It runs in my family’, among others.

Make up in your mind to anticipate your success by your mental attitude.
