(ThyBlackMan.comThere’s always random stories of people living until they’re over a hundred years old, and the things they come out with as the secret to their long life is incredible. For example, drinking a small glass of spirit before bed, eating eggs for breakfast each day. The list could go on. But what we’re here to explore today is, what is the key to a longer life? Well, we think there are many. Some of it may be down to luck, but how you treat you and your body definitely has an impact on how long you’re going to live. Nobody likes the thought of growing old, and eventually have to leave this world. So trying to find a way to extend life expectancy is something that creeps across all of our lives as we get older. So to try and put your mind at ease, here’s what we believe are the many keys to a longer life, let’s explore them!

Healthy Diet

We’re always fed so many stories about what a healthy diet should be, how a bad one can affect us, and what how a good one can change our lives. Now, whilst is it all true, there’s so many conflicting stories about what we should and shouldn’t eat. Foods that were once deemed safe to eat, now seem to be causing a riot. Take bacon for example. There have been facts surfacing over the last year or so saying bacon is related to the cause of some cancer cells. Whereas before, as long as bacon was grilled, it was seen as pretty healthy in a lot of people’s eyes. So we’re here to try and clear a few myths up for you. The first is what you shouldn’t be eating. It is a well known fact that eating foods high in saturated fats, salts, and sugars is only going to damage your health. But the really damaging thing about it is you just don’t notice what it’s truly doing to your insides until you get older.

When you’re younger, you’re invincible, it has always been that way. The thing with foods high in all those negative factors is they just aren’t meant to be in our diet. Natural foods, meats, or meat replacements is what our body needs. It wasn’t designed to digest the foods we now fill our diet with, hence why it causes so many issues. So, the key to living a longer, healthier life through diet is this. Don’t go crazy on cutting out absolutely everything that is bad for you, and don’t spend your life filling your bodies with it. You need to be eating a nice balanced diet, with the odd treat or two now and then. As long as for the majority of the time you’re eating clean, you’re going to be giving your body the vital vitamins and minerals it needs to survive.

Healthy Lifestyle

This one comes hand in hand with the diet. Like with the diet, it isn’t always easy to live a healthy lifestyle. There are so many different factors contributing to the fact we might go off the rails a bit. For example, when we are young, we dabble in the things we aren’t meant to. Underage drinking, drugs, smoking. It is all something teenagers go through. But old habits die hard, and a lot of them can actually stick with us into old age. Drinking and smoking are the two main ones to do so. There’s no secrets of the dangers smoking proposes. So why do so many people carry on doing it for years and years? Well, it is addictive, and a way of curbing stress, losing weight etc. A lot of people see more positives in it than they do negatives. But the sooner you stop, the sooner you’re going to prevent those nasty diseases that we really don’t want you getting. E-cigs are the best way of quitting, they replicate smoking, and the juices you can buy taste really good. As you drop down through the milligrams, your need for nicotine will vanish!

If you’re interested, you can purchase everything you need through websites such as ECW. Drinking is another big killer, even if people don’t like to think of it as. It’s all well and good getting as drunk as possible in one go when you were younger, but casual drinking coupled with this is really damaging your insides. You might not realise it, but a cheeky glass of wine, or a bottle of beer after work isn’t really cheeky after all. It’s slowly causing your liver function to deteriorate, weight gain to happen, and in the long run, a short life expectancy. Try and keep the drinking down to a minimum, maybe a week a week treat. When you do drink, stay away from wines or anything too heavy. None of the alcohol that you can drink is good for you, but there are some that are better than others.

Youthful Mind

This has to be one of the biggest keys to a longer life. The younger you feel inside, the younger you seem on the outside. Life is too short to become old in your ways. You need to have that childish side that allows you to have fun, laugh, and carry on growing as a person into old age. This is something that a lot of older people seem to be doing nowadays. Reminiscing of their youth, and trying to stay as young as possible in the mind. This actually isn’t as hard to do as you may think. Getting out and about, and seeing the world in a new light is all you need to do. One of the main reasons why we always feel so old is because life can just get us down sometimes. There’s so many stresses that cross our path, and as soon as we leave our teenage lives behind and have a bit of responsibility, so it is easy to feel old before out time. It is important to take some time to destress every so often, and make sure we appreciate the little things in life. Every moment is a blessing, and that is something you should remember forever!

Life Experiences

This is also one of the biggest keys to a longer life. The more your mind explores and grows, the younger you’re going to feel. Whilst is might not necessarily help improve your life expectancy, it does help to improve the life you’re living. There’s so many experiences to be had, and memories to be made that we will never forget. One we really recommend you doing is travelling. People are always so quick to settle down, get a house, get married, and have children. But there’s so many more steps to take in between that. There’s a whole world out there to explore.

The people who do chose to settle down early and the ones who regret not living life to the full beforehand. Go on gap years, go and see the countries you’ve always wanted to see, and don’t let anything but money hold you back. Yes, we know travelling is expensive, but if you save enough money and have the commitment in your mind that you want to go, it won’t be hard to make your dreams come true. You also need to fill your life with experiences that only friends and family can give you. Go out and drink a few too many cocktails (occasionally) and eat the best food in the world. The happier you are, the happier your mind is, which should equal a longer fuller life.

Family

Surrounding yourself with family is so important, especially as you get older. Family truly is the key to happiness. They’ll be there for you when you might have thought nobody else would be, and they drive you to reach for your dreams on a daily basis. Starting your own family is one of the biggest blessings in life, but only when you know you’re ready to do so. They give you the life that you maybe didn’t even think was possible. The possibilities that open up when you have your own little family are endless. The life that you once used to lead, you can then pass on to them. It almost gives you a reason to live, knowing they rely on you, and you rely on them probably just as much.

Being Old Fashioned

This is definitely one of the main reasons why the older generation at the minute are living as long as they are. In some ways, it really isn’t the best. For example, they refuse to go to the doctors until the very last minute! But in some ways it works out great. They don’t believe in painkillers or medication, meaning they aren’t shovelling everything under the sun into their bodies. They believe in good nutrition, and keeping the mind young. If everyone had a bit of the old values within them, the world would be a much better, healthier place.
