1. The Oldest Valentine Written

In the early fifteenth century, a prisoner Charles d’Orléans, Duke of Orleans wrote the earliest ‘Valentine’ poem to his love when he was kept in the Tower of London. He wrote, “I am already sick of love, My very gentle Valentine.” The man was captured by the English during a war between France and England. Charles married his second wife and was taken at Agincourt. The couple never had any children and the wife died while Charles was yet a prisoner. The poem is called A Farewell to Love.

2. Singles Awareness Day (S.A.D.)

February 14 is also celebrated as Singles Awareness Day (S.A.D.) and it’s a holiday that serves as a complement to Valentine’s Day for singles. People who are not into any romantic relationship celebrate this day and encourage people to celebrate the love of all forms and recognize the love between family, friends, and pets.

3. Bizarre Foods

Girls in Medieval times used to eat bizarre foods on Valentine’s Day. The belief was that those who eat such food get to see their future spouses in dreams. In case if you are curious to hear a logical explanation for such activities, you need to find someone from the 5th century.

Cupid is the king for a day and is one of the most cherished figures singles want to find along their way. According to legend, he is the son of Venus, the goddess of love, seduction, and beauty. There’s a meaning behind the number of roses you give to someone on Valentine’s Day. The color theory is different than this one. While the red rose is a symbol of romance, love and it will always be a great way to say “I love you“,  giving one rose means whirlwind romance, two means you are seeking an apology. Twelve roses together mean you are proposing someone for marriage and the number 36 is to profess your true love to someone. If your friend is a florist or your budget allows you to spend more, giving 101 roses means you are crazily in love with the person. It’s crazy of course because such loaded bouquets are not so cheap, especially if you are buying one on Valentine’s Day.

6. Romeo, Juliet & Love Letters

Thousands of love letters are addressed to Juliet on Valentine’s Day every year. In the tragedy written by William Shakespeare, the most famous lovers of all time Romeo and Juliet lived in the city of Verona, Italy. The tragic drama was written at the end of the 16th century, but even when decades and centuries have passed, every year, thousands of letters are sent to the city by people from around the world.

Probably not, but if you really want something on Valentine’s Day, just follow what 15% American women do. In America, a large number of women book flowers and get the flowers delivered to themselves.
