(ThyBlackMan.com) In the information age, we get instant news updates, microwave food, upload our whereabouts and share information like never before. Reality shows aside, it seems celebrity secrets harder to keep nowadays. Even governments find it hard to keep sensitive info safe. But on the other hand, the digital age has been kind to others. DRAKE.

He wisely catered to the ‘need to know’ generation with online Mix Tapes that were downloaded in record numbers. The madness continued until it made Drake a household name. Filled with catchy punch lines and romantic escapades, Drake took the rap world by storm. A few radio friendly songs later, Drake became ‘must have’ music for his entire generation. Don’t forget the fact that most Gen Y’ers pack smart phones which play music…guess how? Digitally. Go figure. No wonder his fans seem to be intimate with Drake. Ever  see him perform in concert? Pandemonium.

Tickles me every time I watch Drake perform his fun filled songs, strutting confidently in designer swag and influenced by his rock inspired sets. Mesmerizing is another word.

The golden era of the 90’s hip hop bad boy has been over. No more guns and razors. Now it’s I phones and I pads. Welcome to the digital age. It’s the only time in the history of music where top selling rap, rock, pop, and reggae artists collaborate. No they really collaborate. They make babies, songs, marriages, movies and political statements side by side. The influence of rap has reached from the Bronx toHollywoodand full circle back toMadison Ave. As in zeros. Advertising budgets for mostly anybody trying to sell something, as of late, are all subject to include rap beats and or lyrics. Enter Drake. Never camera shy he excelled in Sprite commercials and probably sold a whole lotta soda. Shrewdly taking a page from James Todd Smith, Drake also has captured the ear of the ladies. It helps when you have songs with some of the hottest female artists in the game. Beyonce, Rihanna Nicky Minaj, Alicia Keys and the queen herself, Mary J Blige. Let’s not forget the 1.8 million selling debut CD “Thank Me Later” was filled with Drake episodes sewn into every line.

From the beginning, song after song became semi biographical detailing the life of the rap star. Usually the events zero in on rugged drums and wicked baselines as Drake rhymes over tracks discussing his favorite topic. Himself.  Maybe it’s the one name thingy? Either way, Drake lets us in on it all.Tours. Groupies. Naysayers. Drinks. Love affairs. Paparazzi and all, To Drake, Everything is fair game. Next time you hear him, do me a favor…Pay attention to Drake. Not so politically correct but well spoken and intelligent, Drake comes off like the dude next door. Thousands of fans awaited his next album with rabid appetites for ‘more info’. Rumors about relationships with R&B artists Rihanna, Nicky Minaj and others helped fuel the fire.

Drake wasn’t transparent or neither misleading while mentioning both ladies on his album. The soap opera continues. Theoretically proving my Uncles theory that “current events are better said than read.” Especially when the end result becomes tightly woven into Drake’s sophomore CD entitled “Take Care.” Flying off the digital scale. One download will have you peeking inside the exotic world of Drake. At times he’s flowing through dramatic club scenes with sexy models, in others he’s lovesick over ex girlfriends. In one he’s singing, in another he’s speed rapping. Unorthodox flowing capacities make it easy for Drake to navigate through different genres showcasing his talent. The future looks bright for the man they call Drake. Popularity growing and it may also be safe to say he’s the lucrative ringtone king of 2011. It remains to be seen where Drake goes next. All roads lead online in this digital age.
