(ThyBlackMan.com) He is everything they fantasized about; a dark warrior with swagger, unafraid to chastise his own and a product of the Black experience. Unlike Colin Powell, he is no wishy-washy moderate supporter of affirmative action and apologist for fairness. Herman Cain is the GOP’s Black buck and the party has a bad case of “jungle fever” or “Mandingo mania,” whichever you prefer to describe their new interest in Black love.
Herman Cain, the pizza man extraordinaire, is the latest in a line of Republican race shields, Black conservatives that the party embraces as the authentically Black expressions of support for right-wing extremism. In the 1980’s the party had a case of the Clarences – including the likes of Clarence Pendleton and Clarence Thomas as two examples of good Black folks. In the 90s, Ward Connerly earned his stripes as Mr. Anti-Affirmative Action, ripping apart California’s efforts to make college admissions more racially inclusive and setting of an anti-equity stampede. Now, a new Black hero has arrived on the GOP scene and Allan Keyes must be worried because his position as the go to Black right-hand man is now in jeopardy. The new Black conservative icon is Herman Cain, the born out of poverty, Morehouse graduate, corporate success story that the GOP is now holding up as the new Black modern man. What is not to like about Cain? His life story is inspiring, he is funny and intelligent. Those attributes cannot obscure the fact that his candidacy is as thin as one of those pizzas he use to shuck and his scorched earth rhetoric is tolerated only because he is a Black novelty.
The Republican Party has convinced itself that it can gain Black support only if it can find the “right” Black people. The problem is that the party of Lincoln is disingenuous and delusional. It does not want Black support. It wants African-Americans who are diametrically opposed to the use of the federal government to enforce Constitutional guarantees of equal protection and intervene in circumstances when private markets discriminate and endanger the public welfare. While many Blacks might be socially conservative – preferring for instance abortion as a last resort – we aren’t stupid. Many of us remember or understand the pitfalls of “state’s rights” and will go to our graves fighting any attempt to return this nation back to the dark and dismal days of Jim Crow; or any present day facsimile.
So, while Herman Cain is entertaining and has an inspiring life story, his politics is not aspirational in the context of Black life in America. His 9-9-9 plan comes off as simplistic as a Godfather’s pizza commercial, and as insulting as the pitch that something that plastered with cheese and dough is good for you. Herman Cain wants us to believe that governing is as easy as delivering hot pizza. His Republican Amen corner wants us to shout hallelujah for the arrival of a sensible Black man; not like that Harvard educated, biracial fellow sitting in the Oval Office. Herman Cain is the self-proclaimed “authentically Black” man and you know how the GOP loves its Black folk.
All jokes aside, the Herman Cain candidacy is a joke and a bad one at that. It smacks of desperation in a party so filled with hate it can’t fathom the idea of having a Mormon as its presidential nominee. Michelle Bachmann looked like a gamer until people actually started to listen when she opened her mouth. Next, came the right’s rush toward Rick Perry until the rock at Niggerhead ranch started to speak. Conservatives then salivated at putting the Big Boy from New Jersey on the presidential menu, only to be teased and eventually told by Chris Christie that he actually has a job to finish in the Garden State. Now, it would actually prefer Herman Cain, a three-for-one candidate, Black, conservative and crazy; he of the fry the immigrants on the big fence crowd. Mitt Romney must be feeling like the fourth runner-up at the Miss America pageant, listening intently as the MC describes the order of succession if the “winner” is unable to fulfill her duties. Conservatives don’t care about Romney’s business experience or his years as governor in blue Massachusetts. They just know that Herman Cain is further right and more invested in white supremacy than “the Mormon.”
Herman Cain’s rapid elevation to Black sainthood in the Republican Party is enough to make most African-Americans suspicious. Let’s be real, when white conservatives embrace a Black man we know the deal. If nothing else Black folks possess common sense; it got us through slavery and Jim Crow, and has been a survival mechanism during hard times. So, while Republicans ogle Cain and swoon over his every absurd and caustically offensive remark, most of us will sit back and enjoy the show, and then cast him in the bin with every other Black fool who attempted to sell us out for personal gain.

I don’t care what color Cain is, or for that matter what color Barrack is…I just care about what is best for our country and it’s future and it is NOT Barrack and the Democratic Party. Cain makes a lot more sense than what has coming out of D.C lately.
Walter Fields has just presented a well thougt out and researched analysis of the proposed Republican nomination of Herman Cain. Any further discussion of Herman Cain serves no other purpose but a distraction to what we ought to be about and that is to claim our voting privialege no matter who we plan to vote for. For those who resort to name calling, and defending the indefensible go rignt ahead. Black people are not stupid, and you know it.
The argument that Frederic Douglas and Martin Luther King Jr. were republicans is completely absurd. First of all While Fredrick Douglas was connected to Abraham Lincoln, that Republican party is no more; it broke down in the late 1920’s and essentially became the Democratic party of old a convention. The reformation came at the same time that many other factions began to form such as the Wiggs and Know Nothings. During the time of Douglas the part of Lincoln was a party made up of a predominately Northern voter block. The Democratic Party was that of the Southerners mostly upper and lower class whites.
Now fast forward to today: The Republican Party has becaome more right wing than ever before in this era many speculate that Ronald Reagan the vangard of supposed GOP idealogy could gain support of the Fascist right. The only argument I have to argue that MLK was not a Republican is that he was an avid believer in Human Rights especially those of laborers. The day before his assasination he was in Tennesse to support a sanitation Union’s rights. When have you ever heard of Republicans supporting Unions?
Other than that Good article Herman Cain is a fool and for a society that prides itself in being based in Judeo Christian beliefs whats with all this fend for yourself rhetoric?
I totally agree why is that Herman Cain is looked at as a “puppet” for the Republican party. Now if you want to talk about puppets you can’t leave out Obama who’s is the nation’s biggest puppet with gay rights, abortion rights, etc pulling his strings. Maybe Herman Cain is a Republican because he WANTS to be. This is the party had closely matches is ideals as well as mine. Apparently you haven’t been paying much attention to the debates but the Republican party is still looking for their “Golden Boy” so therefore they have not embraced Cain fully yet but the public has.
To Karizmata, there is nothing stopping you from becoming a millionaire but your mind. You can only go as far as your mind will let you and if you think that “insiders” can prevent you then you have lost already because you won’t even try. How will you know what you can do if you NEVER try. That’s what keeps many of us Black People down, we see what things appear to look like then give up without even trying because we’ve “second guessed” what is going on.
I remember I worked as a temp for a company that had no minorities in the office. Yet the people that worked there was very nice. So I asked why there were no Black people employed and they told me that’s because none applied. I was wowed. So many of us are waiting for someone else to make the first move before we do it. Since Obama became president Black folks are saying, “Now I know I can become president.” Why? That should have been known before why wait for someone else to make it before you realize your dreams can be a reality, why not “you” be the “first”? Instead of resenting Herman Cain’s success maybe you should be quiet and emulate him.
I’m so tired of hearing who are not rich being angry and resentful to those who are. Stop complaining and get off your butt and do something to better yourself.
In,2006, Herman Cain donated $1 million of his own money in an attempt to encourage black voters to vote pro-life.

STOP THE MEDIA LIES!
Your ignorance and prejudice is absolutley appalling. Never mind that Cain is literally the son of a shoe shine “boy”. Never mind Frederick Douglass, never mind Martin Luther King Jr, never mind JC Watts – all Conservatives because they believed in Liberty, Freedom, morality and individual responsibility instead of Uncle Sam’s Entitlement Plantation. Never mind that it took the Democrats a whopping 120 years longer than the Republicans to put a black person in the Senate. Never mind that it was Southern Democrat lawmakers who redistricted and came up with Jim Crow laws to stop the flood of black Republicans elected to DC. Never mind that the heart of Affirmative Action is the notion that blacks just aren’t smart enough to to do anything, let alone get into college without Uncle Sam’s help. Do yourself a favor, read Frantz Emmanuel Kebreau’s excellent “Stolen History”. Then go read Frederick Douglass’ speeches. Then go look at the destruction wrought by decades of Democrat rule in heavily black cities like Detroit. Then ask yourself, why does the Democrat party continue to enact policies that keep folks locked in the ghetto? And perhaps better yet, why are you supporting them?
Wow!!! You really don’t get it or you are really the hateful ones!!! Are blacks supposed to have one ideology? When we as blacks raise our children in a conservative manner, does it not make sense to also vote in a conservative way? Should we allow our community to continuously keep our hands out for the pennies government gives or should we do as Dr. King and Mr. Cain has Conservatively done which was to work their way out of poverty?? Look in the mirror when you talk about HATE!!! Also, look around, there are far more black Republicans out there than you on the Left care to point out! Do your history and you will see which side has more hate!
I am not going to vote for Herman Cain because he is trying to make excuses for the status quo politicos and their banking cartel connected buddies. He said it was your own fault if you’re not a millionaire. We know that isn’t true, we know that the insiders have the game fixed. It’s across the board cronyism. He is sitting on the board of the crony controllers, deciding who wins or loses, at the Fed in KC, and he thinks that we are going to forget that? NO WAY, cornbread Cain.
