(ThyBlackMan.com) In case you missed it, some news from the past week…

So, according to Mitch McConnell, Barack Obama’s presidency was reparations and, besides, no one around today is responsible for slavery.  If  you didn’t catch writer Ta-Nehisi Coates’ clapback: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/06/ta-nehisi-coates-testimony-house-reparations-hr-40/592042/?utm_campaign=atlantic-politics-and-policy&utm_content=edit-promo&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_term=2019-06-19T15%3A21%3A48  ‘nuf said.

Is Joe Biden, saying he “can get things done” with arch-segregationists like dead Senator James Eastland, the same as Trump saying “very fine people on both sides” and is Biden’s tiff with  Senator Corey Booker his ‘Sista Soulja’ moment?

The U.S. Justice Department went to court to defend not providing toothbrushes, soap and blankets to migrant children detained in cold cages and the news media focused more attention on the “controversy” surrounding Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez calling these detention centers “concentration camps”.

Proving the maxim that “even a stopped clock is right twice-a-day”, Fox News host Tucker Carlson is reported to have advised president Trump not to strike Iran in retaliation for downing a U.S. drone over the Persian Gulf.  Never mind that the Persian Gulf is Iran’s backyard and I’m sure we would welcome them flying a “spy plane” off Virginia Beach.

A black family was stopped by police, with guns drawn, over their four-year-old daughter allegedly leaving the Dollar Store with a doll.  After, they didn’t get treated to lunch at Burger King like Dylan Roof, on his way to being booked for killing nine worshipers in a Charleston church.

In more police news, the Plain View Project reviewed and revealed social media posts of active duty police officers in several cities around the country showing racist, homophobic and other biased content.  In Philadelphia, where seventy patrolmen were put on desk duty pending further investigation of their social media accounts, the police union president said “they have first amendment rights” just like everybody else.  They certainly do, but should they be issued a badge and gun paid for by some of those very people who, by-the-way, they swore an oath to protect and serve?

A Syrian refugee was apprehended for plotting the bombing of a Pittsburgh church.  He had been under FBI surveillance and the Bureau had also been keeping track of his contacts.  This same week, a young white guy, dressed in combat gear and carrying an assault rifle and extra magazines, shot up a federal courthouse in Texas.  A search of his social media after the attack revealed white nationalist materials.  No mention was made of his contacts.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, with a straight face, there is “credible evidence” Iran has been working with, or providing assistance to, Al Qaeda.  Therefore, the U.S. can use the 2001 Authorization of Use of Military Force, passed after the 9/11 attacks, to go after Iran.  But wait, weren’t the 9/11 hijackers, including their leader, Osama bin-Laden, Saudis and didn’t Iran help drive the Islamic State, another radical Sunni group espousing the Saudi brand of Wahhabi Islam, out of Iraq and Syria?

Despite all of his bluster about stopping illegal immigration, building a wall and, this week, a planned round-up of immigrants who had been ordered deported, the Trump Administration has not, in any twelve month period since they have been in office, deported as many people as the Obama administration did.

Republican State Senators in Oregon fled the state to deny Democrats a quorum to vote on a bill reducing fossil fuel emissions by the year 2050.  Some heavily armed white militias have said they will protect those Senators against Oregon State Police who have been dispatched to bring them back to the State Capital.  Stay tuned for this one.

Until next time…
